Subject: The current trend towards censorship in the American media

I was reading a story on BBC news today, which says that American Idol host Simon Cowell is in trouble after being accused of giving fellow presenter Paula Abdul the finger on air. This is after, as we all know, the furore surrounding Janet Jackson's flash of flesh at the Superbowl......I suppose my point is that the American media seems to be strangely conservative. It's peculiar for it to be that way, after all it seems strange that in a country where you can buy assault rifles over the counter that such moral outrage is aimed at someone making rude gestures at Paula Abdul :-)

Anyone got any thoughts on this?
