I am afraid to say that I agree with one aspect of your argument, Goktimus - convention organising is the very embodiment of a thankless task. Trust me, I know - I helped run Star Trek cons for years in the UK and it seemed like there was a line of people forming to kick me in the unmentionables just for stepping up to the plate and taking a shot at it. However (and I am sorry if you don't like this bit) you have to take into consideration what it says about you as a person that you are willing to step up and take the shot anyway. You care enough, Goktimus, to try - and you shouldn't let the thoughtless actions of others put you off. I don't know what happened on the other board, all I am going on is my own personal experiences (you might think I am kidding at this point, or exaggerating for comic effect, but at one point I was receiving death threats - no joke, I assure you! :-)) but from what I know of you, if anyone can see their way past the flak and pull off an excellent con, it's you!

I don't honestly know what I want to communicate with this message. Solidarity, certainly, as well as understanding of the position you are in and a reminder that there are others out there who have been in the same extremely annoying position. Perhaps to try and get you to reconsider the convention game - Transformers, as a fan market, isn't as well supported as other toys/shows/genres and so I think we have to support the cons that are there to foster and encourage more in the future. I also think that fans such as yourself, with an obviously impressive knowledge of the subject, who obviously care about the end product, should be the ones to make the con market flourish. You know why I always preferred fan run cons to professional events? While the professional events always had the sparkle and the glitzy effects, the fan run cons always had that feeling of (if you will forgive me) love being put into the whole thing.

Like I said, I just want to let you know that you're not alone, and you have my sympathies if you tried to do something good for the fan community you care about and were knocked down off the hotspot for nothing more than getting up there in the first place. Chin up old boy, as they say over here (well, at least they used to!) :-)

Oh, and for those of you who ascribe to the appropriate calendar system, a happy new year to you all! :-) (best wishes to those who might not follow the same calendar system, just so you don't feel left out!) :-)

Cheers

FD
