>Virtually every canonical source that mentions Unicron portrays him - at some point in time - as being >fundamentally immortal.

Fundamentally immortal, meaning he's immortal for the purpose of making him sound unstoppable, but it isn't stated as a fact. A more accurate description would be Unicron is extremely old (timeless even, because he pre-dates this universe) and possesses a notoriously difficult spark to extinguish.

>2/ US Cartoon: In the episode "Ghost in the Machine," Starscream's immortal ghost reactivate's Unicron's brain.
> However, this brain arguably still contained at least part of Unicron's life essence as it asked Starscream to attach > Unicron's head to Cybertron so that he could have a new body and begin devouring worlds anew.

And in the US cartoon Unicron wasn't a timeless, god-like presence at all, he was the science project of a chimp-like dwarf who had issues with existence. Taking this into account I think it's pretty safe to say that even blatant facts stated in Transformers continuity are still a matter of personal interpretation.

>Furthemore, Unicron makes NO pretense that he is noble. Unicron is utterly evil, and he knows it.

Yeah, I know he's evil, my theory in no way suggests that Unicron is noble at all. Actually I see him as being supremely selfish in wanting to wipe out all existence because of his own fears.
However, I refuse to believe he sees himself as being evil because the moment a character refers to themselves as being evil they become a two dimensional villain or a plot device. Transformers is more than stereotypical goodies and baddies and I feel that a character like Unicron deserves to have a little depth.

>A better example of the kind of evil that you're referring to -- as in, evil that believes that it's good, is Beast >Machines, particularly the first season.

Yes, absolutely. That's precisely what I'm talking about.

Unfortunately I can't even split the difference with you by saying "okay, since Transformers Armada most likely won't deal with Unicron's motivations, I'm going to apply my theory to Armada Unicron" because of that damn "Worlds Collide" story running through the Dreamwave comics right now.

Y'know, when it was said that Dreamwave were gonna find a way to unite all the continuities I thought that meant they were going to keep what worked (i.e. Primus being the God of Cybertron and Unicron being a Chaos God) and cull what didn't fit (i.e. the Dinobots being built on Earth by Wheeljack & Ratchet).

But instead they took the cheap way out and just decided "oh, it all happened in alternate realities and the constant between them all is one Unicron who can cross from one reality into the next". Wow, that took a lot of effort, didn't it?

What do you suppose they did with the rest of their afternoon?
