Technology has indeed evolved to a whole new level as I saw in person at the "Import Drags" at Ennis, TX. Front wheel drive 4-cyl cars in the 10's and 9's! My oh my.. Although I am not a big fan of small displacement engines, I marveled at the astounding engineering that went into some of the faster cars and chuckled at the thought of how much money could be made street racing a 9 or 10 sec 4-cyl car. :-)
Talk about "the ultimate sleeper"! I love it!
Now on the other hand, there also seems to be a large amount of import drag "look-a-likes" on the streets that only boast "sponser stickers" instead of boasting "boost" as in, "turbo boost". That concept is a little hard for me to understand. In the years that I have built and raced cars, the whole idea has been to HIDE car's true potential from its' opponents.. Is that "backwards thinking" or have I totally missed something? (scratching his head)
Anyway, good point Tronix! Some "insight" on my little "car project".. The goal: take an early Camaro, make it pull a .98g or better on the lateral skidpad, run a 1/4 mile time of 12.00 or better, and have a top-end speed of 170mph+..
The results? Only a .92g skidpad score, best ET 11.02@129mph, best "flying mile timed pass" 239.074mph.
What is a "flying mile timed pass" you ask? Simple.. You start from a dead stop and have exactly ONE measured mile to accelerate to speed. The "timing traps" at the end of the mile are placed 100 feet apart and yield the speed of the vehicle..
Not too many folks are in to "mile racing", but it sure is a blast!
Have a good one, and BANG those gears!
