If you're able, get a large chalkboard, 2 ft. by 3 ft or larger. He won't remember his letters unless he can feel them. At age 8, I would use cursive unless his school does not teach it at all.
Draw lines on the chalkboard about 1 foot in width. Must have a drawn baseline, dashed midline and topline. Practice the first 10 letters in a logical sequence:

Day One: c, d, a, g
Day Two: b, f
Day Three: e, l, t,
Day Four: h, k
Day Five: i, j

Use large paper with two inch lines (from topline to base line) to review previously learned letters. Done after new letters learned and daily. KEY IS WRITE, SAY, AND FEEL. Any letter written, must be said and written large.
