I am in the process of trying to get help for my youngest. He sounds very similiar to your daughter - minus the ear infections. He avoids trying to read and despite vigorous one on one tutoring he fails to progress. I taught both my older children to read with no problems ( my oldest was still 2 years old when he started ) My youngest continues to struggle despite varied methods and regular tutoring.

Hehas a lot of trouble with sequences and even at age 7 still cannot recite the days of the week, months of the year etc.

I'm sure it is dyslexia. He is extremely bright and frustrated becausehe cannot read. He writes his name and copies from the board but will not write as he feels he cannot because he can't read or spell. His teacher graded his reading level at an equivalent to senior kindergarten ( 5 yrs old )Both my husband and I and our two older sons are all highly gifted 99.9th percentile.

I'm positive my youngest is highly gifted as well but he cannot read. I can only imagine his frustration at not being able to access materials at his level or communicate his ideas through writing.
