Subject: The five Autobots slipped in to the docking bay....
In reply to: Charlie 's message, "What's the first thing you say to the man up stairs when you die?" on 14:16:14 09/03/02 Tue

...from the holorooms and assessed the situation. As usual, the large Docking Bay was a hotbed of activity: Freighters, tourists, a few small scuffles here and there, and black exhaust from a vessel on the far end of the docking bay making it impossible to see exactly what was going on. Scaleblade or Rampage could walk by during a time like this and go unnoticed--! Still, they tightened the resolution on their optics and prepared to move closer, to investigate a possible concealing maneuver when they heard a loud crash up above.

Silently, the squad leader motioned for the others to fan out and take positions around the ship, their blasters charged and set on a low-modulation stealth setting. They watched in amazement as a man leapt from a balcony up above and engaged the Maximal who had fled earlier. Amazingly he seemed to have the upper hand, but a civilian overstepping his boundaries could get hurt, and they weren't about to see an innocent fall on their watch. It had been nearly a year, maybe longer, since the WR@ had taken over the station, and though life was returning to the facade of normalcy, no one had forgotten the heavy casualties, least of all Starbase security. They would never forget. The station had enough ghosts. Rampage may have massacred its first crew, and the WR@ may have taken their share of victims, but the survivors possessed an unbreakable spirit.

Two of the Autobots nodded as their commander gestured silently, and retracted their hands, extending elecromagentic grapples in their place. They launched them against the ships hull, but the sound of the impact was lost of the tearing sound of metal above. It was hard to see exactly what was going on up their, but as the two Autobots retracted the cables and reeld themselves up the side of the ship, they would soon have a better vantage point.

They peered over the edge, waving silently to the three below in an ancient Cybertronian military hand code. the Predacon had leapt to his partner-in-crime's defense, and had found a worthy foe in the scarred civilian. The two Autobots watched as Charlie tore in to the ship with his laser cutter and sent Sitis flying over the other side of the ship. The Autobots climbed up on top to secure the Maximal while the three below moved in to break up the fight, but Othello was already rappeling down to get the drop on Charlie. As Othello helped Sitis away Iago stepped in, brutally fighting an already bloodied human foe.

"Hold it you two--FREEZE!

The Autobots on the ship exhanged a wry grin; their leader and the others had moved around the crates and had intercepted Sitis and Othello. But in executing such a maneuver they had left Charlie to the mercies of Iago. The two on the ship needed no Rugby military code to know what their responsibility was.

They dropped to the ground between Charlie and Iago, shields fanning out from their forearms to divert the Hyena's manic fire. Charlie stood shaking and bloody, clutching a splintered piece of wood. As the Pretender's blasts richocheted off the shields of the two Autobots, one turned to address Charlie.

"Easy son, you did good, but you have to let the pros handle it now. You're going to be all right now.

The Autobot did his best to manage a reassuring smile, but he could see the human was in bad shape, and he wasn't sure himself how this was all going to end. Starbase Rugby was populated and ran by survivors with nerves of steel, but any casualty still hit hard...

"Defeat is worse than death because you have to live with defeat."
