Subject: Deborah slowly sat up, her head pounding...
In reply to: Dangerous_1ne(mobile) 's message, "He stood in the center of the fray...frozen meks all about him." on 20:52:19 07/18/01 Wed

She remembered a lot of shouting around her as she lay half-unconscious within the “womb” of the 1ne. As the creature in black called out to her, she knew this was no dream, no regrettable jaunt into the recesses of her mind. As her vision cleared, a faint red glow surrounding her(concealed when the Dangerous_1ne(mobile) shielded her) faded, and with it, a small voice within, words as gossamer thin as REM-memory.

She strode forward, her thoughts now of Ali, only of Ali. “..we mean Ali no Harm...” it--no, they--had said. Confirmation. Ali WAS there, and known by name. She was a trusting child in spite of the hardships life had thrust upon her, and Deb feared this trust might have been misplaced. Or had it? She had seen the brash actions of Steele & Hamm’s troops, and that shell the creature sprayed her with--though no evidence of it now remained, she could swear it had happened. Or perhaps that too, like the small crimson voice, was also her subconscious imagining. She spoke what everyone in the Docking Bay must surely have been wondering.

”Who...what...are you? Where is Ali? Is she okay? Why do you have her?

Please. I’m sick of this fighting, tired of war. If you mean her no harm you’ll return her, and end this. You SHOULD end this."

If Deb’s voice was quavering at all when she began to address the 1ne, it was steady and determined at the end, implied threat underlying even. This was a strong woman, who would if pressed protect Ali as if she were her own, even at the cost of her own life. A finer mother no child could possibly hope for. The danger was still tangible; the source was unclear.

All eyes were on the 1ne now...
