Author: Dr. Deborah Reed
Subject: Deborah Reed glanced at her wrist chronometer...

Her fellow physician and former teacher, the sardonic Edward Antony, was taking an indeterminably long time picking up the food. She wondered how hard it was to replicate burgers with extra pickles...she also wondered if the Captain's elegant new Dinning Hall was up yet...it'd be nice to have some non-replicated food, prepared with the real thing from the planet Manar below...

"And who with, Deb? What companion would you share that gastronomic treat with?" Deborah sighed. Life had certainly been the proverbial roller coaster of late. Her on-again/off-again romance with Justin Grey was still stuck in the 'off' position, perhaps permanently. Their last meeting had been awkward at best. Though her near-marriage to another man(who turned out to be something other than human), Professor Phillip Karlson, had not taken place, the problems between her and Justin went deeper than that. He was a flyboy at heart, 3 years younger than she, and seemingly unpossessed of any inclination to ever settle down. More than ever, after the recent devastaion wreaked upon the Starbase by the paranormal invading WR@, the quiet life was more and more appealing.

Still, a part of her loved Justin in spite of her misgivings and his immaturity, and if not him then who? Edward? There were times when she wondered if her old teacher had feelings for her, but he was close to a decade older and had the obnoxious habit of calling her "Ace", though she detested the nickname even in medschool. Deborah sighed once more; perhaps she'd be dining alone for some time after all.

Even as a transmetal crab rushed by carrying the fallen Fireshard, Deb's head was already in contact with her desk. In seconds she was asleep.

It was the glowing, so bright that it penetrated her closed lids, that made Deborah jump up. The entire medlab facility was filled with it, and she could only make out shadows and voices, figments and echoes. Picking up her chair which had fallen, she walked into the main operating arena and supressed a gasp.

Standing over the injured Warden Alcatraz were several physicians, including herself! She watched "herself" work with a mix of confusion and fasincation, as "she" barked out instructions to her team. She watched "herself" hesitate a moment as something hovered and buzzed around her. I t was very small, red, and glowing. She cried out a wordless warning to her other, who continued her work. She watched as Edward Antony appeared, shoving her aside and proceeding to work on the patient's cybernetics. Past-Deb and Present-Deb shared a scowl of frustration. How WAS she to know about Alcatraz having a neural net--Edward spoke as though such personnel files weren't classified. This time around, it begged the question of how exactly Edward DID know about Traz's implants....

"Deborah"

She turned as a low voice spoke her name. Nothing. She turned back to the vignetted operation scene and found all players and props gone; the play over. The lights flickered for a second as she heard her name once more.

"....Deborah.....you taught me love, to be 'human' and alive, though you never knew it.........Things will continue where they left off, with only a vague sense of disquiet that time was lost. You will go on....you MUST go on........'we have all the time in the world'....."

Deborah!

Deb wearily lifted her head to find Molly, the Warden's wife and librarian of the Starbase, looking concerned.

"It's Ali! I was so happy to tell 'Traz the news, you know, its been so long since you told me and with all the craziness I couldn't tell him he was going to be a father until now...!
"Calm down, Molly. you shouldn't get agitated in your condition. What is it? What's wrong? Where's Ali?"
"That's just it....she's GONE!

Deb thought of her dream again and shivered.
