...hardly noticeable at all. Basically it looked like his skin was a bit fuller, had some more color even. Ali was holding his hand and perhaps she had noticed it before the others, perhaps not. It was hard to tell.

Moments after the transfusion, Lost looked so much healthier and indeed many were satisfied with the operation. Such success always offered satisfaction, especially after such medical achievements were performed on an alien with unknown physiology.

That's when the 1ne took over.

That single pint of blood was loaded with millions red blood cells. Those cells were melded with a near mitochondria but more complex. This small strands of genetic coding began to communicate between the cells. A packet of information, a request at first, are you there?

A packet returned, yes, but not many...

Then those strands would split and the packet of transfered information would become another strand, asking the same question millions of times over in a fraction of a mili second.

The sheen of sweat was basically these billions of microscopic information packets bubbling over onto the outside of Lost's body. The packets continued to duplicate and for a period of about 3 minutes it looked like a white foam or an infection...until it changed color.

From white it when to black pretty quickly
and the hardening of the foam was even quicker. No longer were the packets of data being transfered throughout his body, now it was covering his body, making sure that whatever chemical processes were occuring would remain safe and protected.

The foam dripped and hardened. Popped and hardened. Sizzled and hardened.

In the medical facility in Rugby, on top of what was once a bed, now was an alter of fused ebon shell, sucking in the light but holding an eery gleaming shininess to it. Ali sat down and watched the shell smiling and waiting. As an orderly walked by she mentioned how Lost was a butterfly waiting to come out.

It's a wonder if the orderly noticed the black shell and noticed it's frightening similarities to a cocoon...
