Inside the apartment two security officers, a canine Maximal and a human, were scanning the footprints left in the spilt soil and sealing up pieces of evidence in plastic ziplock bags.

Outside Ray and half a dozen bleary-eyed technicians from the recently off-duty Z-Shift had arrived brandishing heavy tools which became nochalant industrial-chic fashion accessories once they saw SBR Security on the scene.

"That was quick," commented one of the Security officers. "We only phoned in a request for technical support about a minute ago."

"We were just finishin' a job," said Ray giving his colleagues a quick glance. The assorted robots and humans nodded quickly and gave affirmative grunts.

After ascertaining that the Pearls were being taken care of the technicians were led into the appartment by a whiskery Guard as a terrified, darkly clothed man with dishevelled hair and tightly bound in silver cord was escorted out by two human guards. It soon became apparent that Security was having some form of difficulty extracting the intruders from the appartment, but not because they were resisting arrest. In fact both perpetrators were inconcious and covered with black, extremely sticky webbing.

"We can't move the skutters until we can find a way to remove the webbing," said the Guard.

Ray leaned over the masked man curled up by the bedroom door and noticed that the strands were not uniformly black but were shot through with metallic veins. He gestured for a baton from the Guard and with some effort managed to partially turn the unconcious captive over.

"What's that, son?" asked the bearded officer, pointing at a small metal box attached to the webbing that had been revealed. Ray didn't answer but instead turned to the co-workers gathered at the other captive.

"We've found a solvant that's helping," said a small blue Autobot with catapillar tracks hoisted on his back. "Mix some dappler with universal solvant, but hold your breath."

Ray looked at his human colleages whom were looking slightly pale and pinch-eyed, then picked the appropriate chemicals from his belt and sprayed them around the recently discovered box. The adhesive didn't total melt away, but it softened enough to allow him to tug the box out of the resulting gooe with a clamp. The Guard gagged slightly and moved back as Ray put the fist-sized box on a dresser. Several wires trailing tar seemed to lead out of the back of the box. Cracking open the box revealed...

"Capacitors," Ray said. "Flash-capacitors. We use 'em to test fuses."

One of the men had been led out wrapped in cable, he though. Not SBR-S tactics.

"You mean like an EMP grenade?" asked the Guard. Security training now included the use of electronic pulse weapons for over a year now.

"Nah. Not enough range. But enough to deliver a shock equivalent to a tazer." Ray shook his head and stood up to talk to the Guard. "Nice idea - wrap 'em up and give 'em a zap."

The Guard raised an eyebrow and gestured to a canine Maximal bagging up some evidence.

"What do you make of this?" he asked, passing a ziplock bag containing some broken and slightly burnt glass tubes bound together and topped by a similar metal box.

"Oh, neon strips. We don't use 'em much any more because they sometimes... flared and... burned... out." The technician frowned. Bondin' adhesive, neon strips- "That man we just saw taken out - was that tritanium cable?"

"You could tell by just looking?" Clearly the beared guard was impressed. "You'll do well, lad!"

The canine Maximal left the bedroom and came back in moments later.

"We found out what knocked out the flat's power supply," he barked. "We found-"

"-a modified portable switchbox plugged into the local area grid fuse box," finished Ray under his breath.

The two remaining intruders were soon partially freed from the webbing and read for transport. Ray and his co-workers were politely but firmly escorted off the scene as a small team of Alpha Shift technicians arrived on the scene. For the second time that night (morning?) they headed back to their quarters for some well earned sleep.
