But if you recall the ones done on SNL, they've involved celebrity cameos from a time period and it never goes well. Mine was set in the mid-70s. I got the idea after seeing that silly Dean Martin Variety Show infomercial hosted by Regis. I didn't expect everyone to understand it but I still like it because I know what it's satirizing; those awful celebrity-cameo laden specials that do nothing but suck up and backslap.

The musical bits were to show Dean Martin's drunken clumsiness and how out of touch he was (ie. Osmonds being mistaken for a married couple, then incestual brother-sister duo, John Denver actually being junkie James Taylor in disguise, Art Garfunkel kicked out because without Paul Simon he seems to be unrecognizable). Dean would almost always break character and laugh in his show's "skits." And SCTV's Sammy Maudlin Show was a similar bit that mocked elite, suck up sleazy celebs. I don't think this was done in a cheap "let's be topical and witty toward famous people" way.

It was just my way of showing how stupid television specials could be especially when Dean Martin was involved. Oh and tacking on Alec Baldwin to the goodnights and the pinata sketch was to continue my theme of him getting his just desserts and punished on air which he took in stride, sort of. Now... is it clearer? Obviously it's still looked at indifferently 'round here but I just want to know that you guys know what I was really aiming for so there's no confusion.
