Subject: 1766, Cavendish to 1842, Henry

In 1766, Henry Cavendish discovered hydrogen; our most fundamental, Universal element --- He (later) presented the Inverse Square Law of Force Action between electric charges.

1791, Bryan Higgins & William Higgins, reported the first of a series of obtaining (the laws of) chemical combinations.

1803, John Dalton, published the first of a series of papers
introducing atomic weights, establishing the law of mutiple proportions, and founding the atomic theory of matter.

1815, Joseph Fraunhofer, noted the spectral lines of several elements, and observed the Fraunhofer (aborption) lines in solar spectra.

1820, Hans Christian Oersted, discovered that an electric current produces a magnetic field; initiating the study of electromagnetism.

1823, Andre Ampere, published his mathematical theory of electromagnetism, and the laws of the magnetic field that
are produced by an electric current.

1826, George Ohm, discovered "Ohm's Law"; current (I in amps)= voltage (E in volts)/resistance (measured in ohms, R)
thus, I = E/R

1827, Robert Brown, discovered "Brownian Movement" (that
molecules are in constant motion with each other). That
in a mass of lead, that appears to be a motionless solid;
the molecules of lead are actually in motion, bombarding each other.

1835 & 1842, Joseph Henry discovered self-induction & the
oscillating electric discharge.

The above, are some of the achievements in the relentless march/progress by "Natural Philosophers" toward understanding and resolving our physical Universe.
