Yep. You can do it. It's actually fun to watch the drunks sometimes, esp. if they don't know you're sober! I do & wonder, "did I act like that?".

I don't go to some functions, and I did avoid all of them at first. Make sure you have your own transportation so you can leave whenever you want---if you start to feel uncomfortable---GO HOME!!! And if somebody tries to tell you a couple beers won't hurt, I hope you hear a voice in your head saying YES IT WILL!!!!!!

[> Ye ole "triggers" -- toosh, 14:13:17 04/18/02 Thu (dhcp024-209-033-060.neo.rr.com/24.209.33.60)

That's a "treatment" term, lol....one of many that made the hair on the back of my neck stand up. I was kinda lucky as I wasn't ever much of a partier....but boy did I ever have MY "triggers"! I mostly lived by myself and loved to get high (opiates)...smoke a joint, make a good dinner and watch TV. Now THAT'S a baaaad trigger, because I had to learn how to RELAX without drugs. My other biiiiig trigger was laying in the sun, swimming etc. So, until I learned I was a pale face for a season or two.

I know ya can do it, kiddo! btw...if you don't mind my asking....how old are you? The reason I ask is because the younger I was the harder it seemed. I thought it was so unfair that everyone else could do it with seemingly no problems but I couldn't! Now that I'm this old fart mama (I'm gonna be 47 next month and had my kid when I was 40)...it's more the rule then the exception. smooooch....Carol

[> It's tough! (especially at first)... -- terry, 17:45:49 04/18/02 Thu (NoHost/66.84.232.176)

I thought I missed it for about 6 months last year. I quit last May when I was diagnosed. Then in December I blew it and got waaassted for about a month straight. I suppose I can never say I'll never...but after going through that, and seeing what my old "friends" go through because of all the drinking and drugging I'm now pretty disgusted with it all. I hope I can keep that disgust very much alive and well! It's tricky tho. It'll try to sneak up on ya. Don't let it. When things get outa hand and everyone starts getting really hammered I just bow out now. Amazing how much better I feel in the morning. Big hugs ((((Donna)))) and good luck. .....t
