Subject: Electrical problems

I have a 1998 3.0 V6 SE Coupe. Last week the battery light on the dash came on and has stayed on since, when the engine is running. I haven’t though, not had any problems with either starting or when driving. Furthermore, the light on the clock now doesn’t work, the offside rear foglight doesn’t work (this I hope is just a bulb) and the electric folding mirrors don’t work.

Has anyone any ideas on what are the likely things to cause the battery light to be on continually.

I have managed to remove the clock from the dash and have replaced the bulb however, when the ignition is switched on, the backing light comes on, but it is a lot dimmer than the radio and heater LED displays. When the lights are turned on, the light on the clock dims right down so that it is practically out, which I don’t think is right. Any suggestions?

When I switch the headlights on, the LED display for the radio and heater dims down slightly. Is this correct?

How difficult is the offside rear fog lamp holder to get to, to change the bulb. It looks as though the carpetting in the boot needs removing?

If I start the engine with the electric folding mirror control in the down position, I can hear a winding noise, as though the mirrors are trying to activate but the folding mirrors do not move?

The height adjustment for the passenger electric front seat has been snapped off. How do I remove the housing unit and is it difficult to replace it? I assume that I will need to buy a new unit?

I have been told by Haynes that they do not produce a manual for the 406 Coupe. Does anybody know of any vehicle workshop type manuals that are available?
