This is a good question and if Your looking to buy a 406 V6 Coupe - Year 2000 model, I’d say it would be well worth getting a 210bhp, against a 194bhp model. Though I can’t comment on how much different the extra 16 bhp makes, it does according to the government figures improve the fuel economy by nearly 2 mpg….

Externally, it’s very difficult to tell what engine is under the bonnet of the Coupe, except the older 2.0 Engines only had 205 width tyres fitted, instead of the R16 215 x 55 tyres fitted to the V6.

The Parker’s Guide states Feb 2000 for the 210 bhp engine - But as cars are made & not necessarily registered straight away…

According to My Peugeot Manual the following two V6 Engines exists:

Type “8CXFZ” 194bhp

Type “8CXFX” 210bhp

So when Your looking at V6 models, by looking under the bonnet, the first thing You should spot is the chrome “V6” badge on the top of the Engine. Then on the driver’s side of the Engine, theirs a small plate fixed on the side of a housing, on My 210bhp engine it reads: “XFX PSA” Plus the bottom line of the Vin plate, (also under the bonnet) reads: “8CXFXA”

Reading some of the older questions on this site, some the owner’s of the 2.0 litre models seem to be looking for ways of getting more power from there engines. Though I tried the new’sh petrol 2.2 litre 160bhp Engine in the Coupe, I’d recommend the V6 every time, as it has the get up & go that You’d expect from such a good looking car. Though the mpg is another story – You may post the question if You wish ;-)
