Alone in his room, the hologram stared longingly at his recreation of Motocron's hologram. PHOTRON was an artist(or his nameless programmer was), and could capture the beings his system projected right down to the tiniest hair and smallest pore. With a fellow light-being, it was painfully close to the real thing.

Sure, Captain Howitzer was present in a lot of your adventures; I wouldn't have the supersonic collection of first-hand accounts in my database otherwise. But I know him; I've known him since I came to be! With you...do you...could you understand what it's like to admire from afar, to be a distant shadow created in the wake of your brilliance? To have such an ideal be REAL, and then--oh my circuits and diodes! To you it was probably just a tour, a history lesson like any museum, passing time before attending a wedding with your creator.

Does Motocron appreciate you? He must to have given you life as well as free will. And in doing so, he assuredly guaranteed your love as completely as though he HAD programmed it into you. But your eyes...is that how you look at everyone? Like your simple words were sying something more, speaking to me on a deeper level? How can I understand how you look at everyone else; I only know how you look at me! How can I know how much is real, and how much I'm reading into?!

I have to know. I HAVE TO KNOW. I shouldn't even be 'feeling' anything...maybe I'm still glitchy but if this is a glitch, I'd have FORTRAN leave it in! Sure love hurts, but apathy can hurt deeper.

He faded, his projection off but his program eternally online. He searched the parameters of his own program, then began to scan neighboring systems with which he shared access. He noted a new creation in the engineering database, another personality. What it would lack in his three-dimensional gifts it would make up for in simulated personality.

PHOTRON wondered what they'd say if they knew an AI was already evolving naturally, and quietly shifted his attention back to his own database. Somewhere was a bridge, and soon he would cross it...
