As the Manarian wizards thick voice cut through the fog of sleep, the Nebulan mercenary and the two Rugby soldiers were at attention immediately. Chris had been the only one of the three to actually get some sleep; Mercado had remained vigilant and Justin could not sleep in his uneasiness. Now all three would-be champions gathered to hear their recruiter's(abductor's?) words. He unfurled the scroll he had been carrying and held it up for all to see.

"See these words on the bottom? Do not speak them aloud; commit them to your memory. The ones that appear below the following:

'you must clear
your mind of
all evil and
light thoughts from
your mind and
recite these words.'"

Rana paused, allowing his party time to study the words beneath the instructions. With some disappointment he noted that none of them picked up the significance of the instructions themselves. Mercado at least, in whom he had confided the most information regarding his Dah'Li experience, should have realized.

"The instructions are NOT backwards. That was what bothered me as I studied the scroll, and it finally hit me.

In the dream dimension they were scrambled, backwards. Once awake, using all parts of my brain, it appeared as it should. That is the wonder and the danger of the strange place to which you will be journeying. Protect your thoughts at all times, even there. Transported physically as you will be, your conscious mind will be doubly powerful. Who knows what maligning creations could spawn forth from a stray thought? You must be wary! Purge your minds of such lethal snags now!

Yes, gather round me, holding the words in your mind only. Both the scroll and my spirit have been in the waking world and in the dream world. I will be your anchor as you are--"

"Whoa," said Justin Grey, interrupting impatiently, "What's with all this 'you' stuff? It almost sounds like you're not coming with us..."

"Finally perceptive, eh Grey? That bodes well for your success.

You're right.

I'm not."

The wind whistled as Rana waited for the gathered's reactions....
