Carlo Terracciano is a known Italian philosopher and political scientist. He wrote the article below as a comment on the events of September 11 this year. His sentiments and analysis are fairly typical of many European intellectuals for whom the maxim "I resist America, therefore I am" is the modern equivalent of Descartes' "Cogito Ergo Sum" and critical reason in nothing but anti-American reason.

WHO SOWS THE WIND ?
About the attacks of 11.9.2001 in the US

�Sow the wind and reap the whirlwind�. Such is the old popular say. And the whirlwind of fire and destruction fallen upon New York, Washington, all over the United States of America, is but the direct consequence of half a century of wars, military intervention, trade embargoes and Western propaganda led by the US and their closer allies, the Israeli and American zionists, all over the world; especially against the Arab, Islamic, Eurasian world, but not only against them.

American imperialism has always been spreading over the planet like some destroying fire; and even when it shows with the friendly hand of humanitarian aid, welfare, solidarity, its poisoned gifts turn into misery for the peoples, corruption, slavery, death for men and civilisations.

All this has a very precise name: Mondialism, Globalisation, Capitalism. Today the latest victims of the true political, economic, military and ecological world owner, with its centre in the American continent, are its very own citizens. Of course we cannot but feel sorrow, as everyone, for the loss on innocent human lives, simple workers, firemen or policemen, women and men of America and elsewhere, whose only guilt is to have been born and live or work in the centre of the �Empire�.

But JUST BECAUSE our heart is always bleeding wherever injustice and massacres are perpetrated, while we see crumble in a cloud of dust the symbols of US military and economic power, the two pillars of the �American system�, our memory cannot help going to the millions and millions victims that imperialism left on the five continents through the last century and a half of its history: the true and greatest holocaust on earth since the human kind exists, and always by the hand of the same Power.

We think about American natives, the Southern Confederation, the Europeans in the two world wars, the Japanese swept away by nuclear bombs, the million and a half Vietnamese, the million Koreans, the Chinese, yesterday�s and today�s African slaves, the Latin-Americans starved and crushed by military dictatorships enslaved to Washington, up to the Serbs, Europeans like us, being object of aggression just one year ago; and so on, through a bloody stream that keeps flowing from the thousand open wounds of the Middle East.

For the first time in their history the US � who always hit being sure of their continental invulnerability � feel in their own home, in the very geographical spots of Power, anguish, terror coming from the sky � the same they made feel to their victims in a hundred different countries. But we do not want to allow ourselves here the perverse exercise of the �death count�, as it was done by our enemies since the Second World War. We propose instead a serious analysis of the causes and the consequences of this event that, out of rhetoric, can be called as EPOCHAL.

For once, the mediatic impact of the kamikaze attack (almost live on TV) has been immense, immediate and world-wide. The whole world could see the greatest military power that ever existed under direct attack, in its essential vital spots. And this did not happen as an attack from a other great power (there are no more left) or a small state; therefore the comparison to Pearl Harbour does not apply.

On the contrary, it was the deal of a few men who used the same civil aircraft of the enemy in order to conduct an operation which � from the strictly technical and organisational point of view � proved to be perfect, manual-like (even too much..!). Men, Islamists, revolutionary militants [unless this origin is not confirmed] who � let us not forget it � chose self-immolation in a mass collective suicide attack having no precedent in modern history.

If we still want to talk �in a propagandistic way -about �terrorism�, due to the negative implications of the term, let us say that this terrorism has made anyway a huge qualitative step forward, up to changing its own nature; not so much in terms of the means employed, as in terms of timing, of targets with their SYMBOLIC significance, and most of all of the psychological consequences, the impact upon the world public opinion it has and will have for a long time in the future.

Once in a while we agree with Bush (!). THIS IS WAR! And this was the statement from a US President who had to run away in his own home, wandering for hours in the US on the Air Force One, like in a fantapolitical B movie, while New York was going and crazy and even the Ministry of Defence was burning - the famous Pentagon, which we all thought to be the most protected and safest place on earth.

But this is a war the US declared against the world, and not since yesterday; this is THEIR war against everybody, which finally retorts against them like a boomerang. And already now it risks to become also our war, of us European and Italian allies, since belonging to the NATO imposes us, through the infamous Article 5 (never applied until now, even in the most severe international crises), to support our masters by all means: since this time the strike did not hit any peripheral country of the �empire�, as its military and economic capital cities. And we Italians, due to our geopolitical location at the centre of the Mediterranean, we are on the first line facing the South, the Islamic Ummah, the Northern African and Middle Easter Arab world. Remember the old say: �he who is not able to bear its own arms, will bear tomorrow those of his winner�.

A winner everybody thought to be invincible until... September 11th 2001, First Year of the Third Millennium. And the tragic irony of destiny wanted that just the US had to prepare the first act of a tragedy that today involves and upsets them on the very American soil deemed to be inviolable. Be it or not Osama Bin Laden, the Saudi billionaire, the mastermind of the attack against the Twin Towers, the Pentagon, possibly the White House, it is nevertheless a fact that the US financed and trained the Islamists against Russia in Afghanistan and always defended, besides Israel, the corrupt kingdoms and emirates of the Persian Gulf, as much hypocritically integralist as enslaved to the American strategy of supremacy over energy sources and strategic spots in that strategically unique zone. The day before the massacre in New York, in the north of Afghanistan general Massoud fell victim of an attack attributed to the same hand, just on the eve of an offensive against the integralist Talibani regime in Kabul, sponsored by Pakistan, faithful ally of Washington. And the friends of Massoud are today Russia, China, India, Tadjikistan � that is, the enemies of American penetration in central Eurasia.

The connivance of star-spangled intelligence services with some integralist environments cast a very dark cloud on the same attacks on the Atlantis Coast. The whole world asks itself how it had been possible to organise such act under the eyes of the mightiest, equipped and infiltrating intelligence in the world. A preparation that took months, maybe years, dozens of people involved, contacts and travels up and down, in and out the US; while in the meantime the semi-official speakers for these organisations launched public appeals about their intents even from London, the close ally of the US, their watchdog on Europe.

Of course, if we had to resort to �cui prodest?�, IN WHOSE BENEFIT?, and ask ourselves who will reap the most benefit in present political terms, the answer would be more than obvious: ISRAEL! Maybe even paying with the lives of their co-religionists in the States, who, doing their own businesses, were starting to feel disturbed and disquieted by the more and more bloody image offered by the Israeli state, after almost one year of intifada, with thousands of deaths and an economy in shambles, caused by the government of Sharon, �the butcher of Sabra and Chatila�.

Is it a coincidence that New York, the symbol-city of America and mondialisation, is also the city of the American Jews, as to be called Jew-York? And the Zionists indeed, on this side of the ocean, immediately give the bill to the Bush administration, for solidary and generous it has been to them, proposing themselves again and always as the �only true allies of America� against Islam, Muslim integralism, Palestinian �terrorism�, assimilated to that of the rich Saudi etc. etc. ... And immediately Israeli politicians from all currents show Washington the targets to strike to; besides Palestinians and Lebanon, Iran in primis, then Iraq, Sudan, Syria. Since their own target, as Netanyhau said, is to knock Islamic governments down and to destroy those states that could soon own nuclear weapons (as Pakistan does) or chemical weapons.

While America was still under attack, Israel, the only nuclear power in the Middle Eastern area, had already alerted its aircraft and missiles, armed with two hundred nuclear heads, enough to sweep away all Arabs and realise the dream of Greater Israel from the Nile to the Euphrates, rebuilding the Third Temple upon the ruins of Al-Aqsa! What a perfect timing!

There is more to it: the defeat of the American power, even after the inevitable reprisal against some defenceless population paying for the bloodthirst of the US and the world public opinion, will certainly cost Bush the next elections. His space scud, so much wanted just by the Pentagon, shows after all its strategic absurdity, when it is evident that in today�s world so little is needed to strike at the heart of the American power. The slap in the face of the superpower has been too great and will weigh against its credibility for years to come. The credibility of invincible America collapsed just in the moment the Twin Towers crumbled in a cloud of dust and death. Now the way to the re-election of a democrat to the White House in four years is cleared. And the synthesis of the interests of the financial lobby, so much damaged in their own sancta sanctorum of New York, of the Zionists in the front line of anti-Islamism, and of a rehabilitated US imperialism, is ready in a name, a new yet proven candidate: JOSEPH LIEBERMAN, former vice of Al Gore in the recent presidential run �stolen� by Bush, who proved so incapable and inept in such a terrible situation.

Who better than an orthodox American Jew could warrant the Americans of hardness and endurance against the Islamic offensive, not in the least for his double origin, which would ever and ever impose him to support Israel in the Middle East? If Clinton could think about influencing Israel and oblige the Jerusalem government to make small concessions to the Palestinians, also leaning upon the American Jewish lobby tired of intifada and to have to put dollars into Jerusalem pockets, now it will be the far-right Sharon government to influence America, to push it on the road with no return of war in Eurasia. It will be Sharon sided by the �dove� (?) Peres to push the luckier co-religionists who get fat between New York and Los Angeles to take arms and send the soldier Ryan of new millennium and the European �allies� in the New Crusade against the new villains. Its chance was the 11th of September, his ace in the hand is Lieberman!

The war-monger folly of American imperialism and Zionism, besides backfiring against the American people, risks to pull us all into a conflict which cannot be but a global one, once again due to the very nature of Mondialism. Italy and Europe again in the front line, as during the Cold War, powerless instruments, objects of another�s expansionist aims, chosen victims of the STABILISING terrorism of the regimes imposed on us by the American occupant, as it was the case for the unpunished state massacres of the so-called �years of led�.

This time the villain, the scapegoat of the new strategy of terror will be no more (or not only) the �fascist�, as also the Muslim, the Arab, the immigrate, the emarginate, the rebel pushed by force into desperation and desperate actions: stones against nuclear bombs.

The reactionary Berlusconi-Fini-Bossi government is preparing the domestic ground (through hate campaigns against Arab immigrants and the Islamic religion) in order to push Italy to wage war for its master, as just one year ago the leftist government did against Serbia. We will be the askari of the Americans, forgetting our died fathers and the despise of the masters towards their serfs (who still remembers the Cermis and the acquittal of American soldiers?).

Yes, dear readers. WE ARE AT WAR! Each of us must choose on which side to stand: with the oppressors of the world, with the true terrorists hungry for power and ready to sacrifice everything to keep it, or with those men who love peace and justice for all peoples. And yet those men know that there will never be peace without Justice and that we must fight for the latter in order to secure the former. And may the God of all armies help us in the coming months and years!
