I think it DOES lend an air of realism, and so I'd play along with it.

True it might hit the bad teams, but then it's not like the Bengals or Cardinals are exempt from this happening to them in real life by mere virtue of sucking.

You may want to consider hitting depth this way. If I have 5-6 great WR's, maybe WR4 is tired of spending most of his time on the bench and wants out, so he holds out.

I don't know of many rookies holding out through the first game of the season. They should probably be allowed to play week one, even if they miss camp.

anyway, either way you go, I'd play ball. I'm too new to be passionate about it one way of the other.
