We have a reception site, a ceremony, a dress for me, a photographer, and hopefully by the end of next week some flowers ordered!! whew, a wedding is a lot of work...

Is anyone else really excited about Wimbledon? -- Pouncer, 11:34:27 06/22/04 Tue (156.80.140.157)
I know if Ruth were here, she would be. I'm already a-tingle at the thought of two weeks of tennis.

The lead singer in our band is. -- wwolfe, 11:37:39 06/22/04 Tue (161.149.63.106)
He was nationally ranked as a teenager, so he really has a passion for tennis. It's fun to watch with him because he can point out subtle aspects of the game that I'd never catch by myself.
HBO showed an in-depth interview with Steffi Graff last night - apparently, the first she's ever done. I missed it, but I'm sure they'll replay it umpteen times.

My BF is. He played tennis a lot when he was younger and still does fairly often now. He's tried to teach me on more than one occassion but I have issues with running after the ball. Why not just hit it to me where I'm standing and I'll hit it back to him? :-p

That's why I was never any good when I tried to play tennis. -- Pouncer, 15:01:25 06/22/04 Tue (199.114.61.82)
The whole "run down the ball" think defeated me utterly.

I won big in a poker tournament at work last night -- Kuzibah, 08:36:53 06/23/04 Wed (12.175.117.195)
We were playing Texas Hold'em, which is the one that runs more or less continuously on Travel Channel.
First, a word of explanation. When I play cards, I don't go to the table thinking, "I want to win." I pick one person at the table, and think, "I want to beat that person."
Since we were playing against the residents, I was at a table with a woman who can be something of a bitch. Not as bad as some, but we've had issues. I picked her to be the one to beat.
On the second hand of the game, I had a Queen and a four. The dealer puts down two Queens and an eight. The betting begins, I am pretty agressive since I know I can beat whatever anyone else is holding. Fourth card down: nine. We continue betting, I'm still aggressive. Fifth card: another Queen.
Damn! I've never had a hand that good in my life! And I know no one can beat it. I go all in. The woman I picked to beat barely hesitates and matches me. I take all of her chips. Inside my head I'm doing "Riverdance."
Oh, she sat there for a few more hands, looking equal parts pissed-off and pitiful, but I'm secretly thrilled.
Of course, instant karma gets me and I only win five more hands the rest of the night. But with a starting pot of 5000, I ended the night with 8,400, so I advanced to the next round. Whoo-hoo!
