I thought some discussion might ensue. I didn't mean to shut things down.

[> [> Re: Spoilers -- Max, 03:46:22 04/08/04 Thu (81.152.246.120)

I have to be honest, I think Connor should be sealed in a vat of rabid and ravenous ferrets and have so much of his skin eaten that his innards fall out.

I can pretty much point my finger at the whole Connor/Cordy/Angel menage and claim that it was the nadir of my entire Buffyverse-watching experience. Hanging the floppy-haired twat upside-down, hacking off his genitals and watching him bleed to death would also work for me.

I tuned in at the beginning of this season to find Angel et al installed at W&H (wtf?) and Spike and Harmony back (yay!). Then I kind of lost touch. But I watched last week and Cordelia came back (with extra added cleavage!), and now I'm downloading everything I've missed on Kazaa just to catch up. I think it was the extra cleavage, but MAN it was good to see her again. Even if they had to use the whole PTB bollocks to explain WHY SHE HAD TO FUCKING GO AGAIN!!! I know CC apparently was a pain in the ass to work with , but as was once said in a pretty good show, so goes Cordy, so goes my nation. And yeah, I paraphrased and changed the character. Y'all know what I meant.

If Connor's coming back now, though, I think I'll just stop downloading. I loathe the little fucker. He was a pointless piece of dreck hauled out of somebody's desperate imagination when they couldn't think of a decent plot arc, and having caused a whole pile of grief and angst it was realized that Connor couldn't just be put back in the box. So we had a Bobby Ewing moment when everybody forgot him ( and I'm not even going to talk about how the overuse of THAT device cheapened the whole fraught Buffy/Angel "I'll Remember You" ep ending, which was admittedly cheesey but is still, for me, in my top 10 Buffy passages of play. Yup, I pretty much blame the Connor debacle for the ignominious "pulling" of a Buffyverse show.

Anyway, the Rule of "Angel" according to Max..."Cordy good, Connor bad". Sometimes adjusted to "Connor bad, Cordy pretty". I'm going to have to re-write the old and creaky DS website, making Connor the buttmonkey.

Anyway, how are you all? Long time no speak (all my fault, and a case of becoming incredibly weary with the world in general). I hope you are all wealthy, healthy and boinking the person/people/farmyard animal of your dreams. Now I gotta go and write fan mail to the Angel wardrobe department for last week...you can't tell me that they bought all Charisma's shirts two sizes too small by ACCIDENT....

How you been, dude?

Decapitate anyone else at a match recently?

Apparently Connor is a one-shot, and it's more about dealing with Angel diddling with his friends' brains than the little bastard, so it looks okay to me.

And I have my suspicions about CC. Merely being a pain in the ass is one thing. Costing a production money is another.

And I've actually been enjoying this season very much, more than any since they moved to the hotel, and I hope you are, too.

And how was the trip to Egypt?!

[> Re: So...Conner is coming back to Angel.... -- wwolfe, 14:53:14 03/31/04 Wed (161.149.63.106)

I'd rather he stayed away. First, because the actor is so irritating (it's a toss-up who's more petulant, Connor or Jess from "Gilmore Girls"). Second, because his departure was the one aspect of his entire story that pleased me. Bringing him back will almost certainly muck that up. With so little time left, I don't want to fritter any of it away on characters who don't interest me.

I'm also glad they can't bring back Buffy. Not, of course, because I dislike the character or Sarah, but because I enjoy having Buffy's story remain open, so she can wander free in my fantasy life. Plus, they can't do justice to the Angel/Buffy story in a the brief time they could spend on it. Lastly, it's a relief I won't have to listen to all the Buffy bashing her return would incite.

Let the core characters of "Angel" wrap up their show together.

in my opinion, this is the first season where "Angel" has stepped completely outside Buffy's shadow as an entirely different entity with different ideas and themes. It's finally exploring new territory, and bringing Buffy back would destroy a lot of that forward movement for me.

And I wholly agree about Connor. Crap character, even worse actor, and his exit from the show was terrific. I wanted to remember him from that final shot of Angel looking at him through the window (either that, or from when Faith beat the crap out of him).

...I soooo agree with the whole Connor/Jess statement.

The only possible justification for bringing Connor back would be as an impetus for having Angel address the ramifications of erasing two years of his friends' memories. They already hinted in the 'Cordy returns' episode that his unilateral decision was morally questionable, and if the gang are having second thoughts about their decision to join W&H, this information could be a vital point.

Any other reason than that is pointless. Connor's story is done.

[> [> Angel's decision... -- wwolfe, 10:57:32 04/01/04 Thu (161.149.63.106)

...to erase his friends' memories could be compared to Willow's decision to brink back Buffy from the dead, in the sense that each displayed a certain amount of hubris. Just as Willow's decision led to Tara's death, thereby completing the arc of the classic tragedy in which a good person's flaw destroys them, it might be that Angel's decision, which led to Fred's death, could fulfill the same dramatic purpose.

I agree, and I hope this is the point of Connor's re-appearance.

"Origin", and he only appears in that one ep. All signs point to Joss wrapping up that thread, rather than returning him to the mix.

Also, according to IMDB, Andrew returns in Episode 20, titled "The Girl in Question" (thought you might like to know, Kuz) along with Michelle Trachtenberg and Juliet Landau & Julie Benz (I'm assuming in the last ever flash back?)

Thanks for the info. I wonder what they'll have Dawn doing - relaying word from Buffy, I assume. One last historical flashback is definitely something to look forward to. Always one of my favorite parts of both shows.

I love those.

I agree you're probably right about Dawn, and I'll reserve judgment on whether that works.

As for Andrew... please no. I'm begging you...

I really don't see a connection between Dawn and Angel. There hadn't been much interaction between the two of them on Buffy. I really don't see the emotional link.

...because I don't want to underestimate the capabilities of Joss and Co. to do something great and ultimately really satisfying with the episode, but at the same time, I'm pretty biased against liking it right from the get go.

Not only was Vincent Kartheiser weird-looking, but I agree with Bill that it's a major toss-up over which character I'd rather reach through my television screen and strangle, him or Jess (Milo Ventimiglia - sp?). They wear on my last nerve.

Still, I've decided to try and remain the eternal optimist on the subject.

[> I'm very pleased -- Pouncer, 10:31:41 04/05/04 Mon (156.80.140.130)

In contrast to everyone else here, Connor is the character who interested me most in season four. His story arc was tragic, and made me *cry* at the end. Angel made his decision to "save" Connor without thinking through the consequences, and now Fred is dead, Gunn is sundered from the group, and the rest are mired in the grey world of W&H. This season's arc has been all about Connor's absence and how it affected the Fang Gang. Bringing him back should allow for great drama.
