Subject: The worn (re)turns... with teeth!

The boot, the bat and the bostanada!

There was a sense with this episode, number 2 in the series, that what Joss was not just nodding to the past - as I had stated in my first analysis, but actually drawing the entre show to a close, coming full circle.

Willow, is especially coming full circle, after the Zenith of her powers at the end of Season 6, she is back to being the frightened, insecure one - the scene of her sitting on the suitcase, looking over the lush green fields in Westbury, was delightfully poignant.

Xander returned to his nerdy days, making goo-goo eyes over the delightful worm victim - dang what was her name, making his classic faux pa's, but loyal in the face of threat in danger. His role in confrontinbg Anya.. was vital, and I guess we need to talk a little about her.

Anya has returned to her demonic state... but is not pleasing her bosses, by showing her occasional flashes of humanity, she loses her privileges - like teleportation, Ande her humanity is polluting her whole demonic guise - it will be interesting to see where this takes us.

Spike appears, none the worse for his flirtation with madness, apparently. Sporting better hair and nice comfortable causual clothes, turning up and offering his services; Xander was even more vehement in his opposition - could there be a bigger spark over jealousy over Anya, causes his enmity?

The worm is defeated, by Xander's gift of humanity, I guess this is his magic power, his simple honesty and integrity, is very persuasive, he brought Willow back from the brink of world destruction, and he saved the life of a less than stellar individual, but a human being nevertheless, by appealing to Anya's remaining humanity.

The most powerful scene was Spike's, stripped of the pathetic disguise, he few back into madness, tortured by the ghosts which accompanied his soul. He reveals to Buffy what he had done and why, his love for her, I guess this is why I am a fan of the relationship, the love he had for her was obvious - even if his nature makes him do some pretty dreadful things. The iconic image of him burning himself upon a cross, was beautifully and powerfully done, I think it is right to continue the powerful themes espoused in the last series.

These reviews are going to come thick and fast, because they are showing the episodes in bundles - which I am not really happy with, I like a weekly serial - plus I often have to tape the shows and catch-up! Grrrrrr Arrrggghhhh!!!

There was nice homage Run Lola Run, with a girl with pink hair running in Frankfurt, Germany, this is apparently part of Buffy's vision thing, we got a glimpse of the attackers, some weird monk figures - Joss and his team love them!

More will be revealed - hopefully.
