Subject: Angel 5/5 *Spoilers*

Fuzzy thoughts for this one, since I had a dinner party last night, and didn't watch it until people left. The dinner went fabulously, however.

Good teaser. Nicely directed and set up the episode well. Andy Hallett just keeps improving as an actor and it was nice to see him get a showcase. Have we had a Lorne-centric episode before?

Liked the whole concept, that the big W&H party would be on Halloween. Also, the set decorations were super. Having been to my share of company Christmas parties, they always have that Fellini-esque feeling, with oversized decorations and weird lights. The only thing missing was the bored-looking caterers in seasonal costume.

Eve had the opening scene with Angel where she suggested he was jerking off in the shower. Big eww to that. Then later the two of them shag like weasels. Ick. And I didn't get the UC Santa Cruz joke.

Wes and Fred drunk was amusing, although Alexis does a much better drunk than Amy. Amy was just loopy, Alexis was doing that "trying to look sober" thing. I really wish they'd give him something meaty to do, though. And speaking of lack of meat, Amy Acker shaking her moneymaker in the lab only served to emphasize just how bony it is. Yipe.

Harmony was again just the right amount. I loved the little flirty interplay with her and Lorne, and her being the only one dancing was perfectly in character. Spike, after a showcase last week, was just a bit of comic relief, which was perfect- no reason for him to take all that active a role this go-round. And discussing Gunn would involve discussing public urination, so I'm not going there.

All in all, an amusing episode, if a little too squicky for my taste.

On the other hand... next week: Mexican Wrestlers! I can't wait! No, I'm serious! It's gonna rule!

I wasn't sure what the tone was going to be early on. It began with Lorne all happy and bubbly and made the left turn into his psyche. That's pretty much how the whole ep went in contrasting light and dark, and I'm not entirely sure it worked for me. I'll have to watch again when I'm a little more awake.

I still don't get the whole laboratory thing. I find it annoying.

I also don't get Gunn as "Super Lawyer!" But I'm getting used to it.

I do like the Angel as fish out of water. He is best when improvising.

Where is Wesley?

Harmony was handled very well. I will not dislike her as long as she is used sparingly.

Spoike was barely seen. It's nice to cycle the characters. We don't overload that way.

Lorne as Mutagenic Slime (see Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles II) psycho didn't quite work for me. I never got the sense that it was actually Lorne doing the damage.

I still liked the interaction between the characters.

Next week's ep looks like a complete hoot.

[> Best. Episode. Ever. -- Mo, 10:26:31 10/30/03 Thu (169.152.251.99)

Of course, this is strictly a subjective thing, but I've never loved an episode of Angel as much as this one. For me, it all worked: the humor, Mega-Lorne, Happy Spike, Territory-Marking Gunn, Gunn's pretty pathetic attempts at dancing. And any episode that has a lordly demon claiming, "Your contempt is fragrant" instantly qualifies for my Top Ten list.

And, poor Wes, slipping back into his Fred-Funk. Plus it certainly doesn't help that Knox is evil, EVIL!!! Or so I guess, just because, c'mon. He HAS to be.

Anyway, yes. Great googily moogily, I loved this episode. And next week: Mexican Wrestler Mailroom Guy!

What with trying to watch LeBron James's (if I dare say, speactacular) NBA debute and IMing with Heather about the fires, and hoping she wouldn't have to jump in the car with her family to evacuate, I couldn't really focus on "Angel." What I saw, I liked, mostly. I seem to be the only person who doesn't like the lab assistant. Otherwise, it seemed fine, but I'll have to catch it on re-run to get a fair take.

Just enough Harmony...Eve's UC Santa Cruz line...but ewwwwwwwwwwwww on the Gunn thing...just ewwwwwwwwww

Angel is definitely getting better this season. I really like the MOTW format. And the guy with the tapped vein? just wild!!

Out of curiosity.

Angel and eve slept together, under the influence of a spell inadvertantly cast by Lorne. At the end of the Ep Angel apologized to Eve who replied by saying "Do you really thing that's the first time I've had sex under mystical influence? I went to UC Santa Cruz!"
