I remember reading this strip when I visited my grandma when I was a little kid. A lot of the comics started in the 1930s and I think the reason I like the movie version of this so much is that it's the one movie that captures the 1930s feel without trying for an updated modern voice. The simple humor and lack of ironic self-consciousness is refreshing. I think that's probably why both Kristy swanson and Billy Zande seemed at home in their roles - they're both straightforward, direct actors at heart, which would normally make them not so interesting, but here makes their characterizations more vivid. Also, Treat Williams is indeed a treat in his zesty performance as the villain. This movie isn't a great work of art, but it's a real work of fun.

I never read the comic (I never read any comics), but I remember really enjoying the movie.
