Subject: Grim's stoopid question of the day.

Kuzibah & I went to the local, 'arthouse' movie theater on Saturday to see the 1978 "Superman." I love this movie...more than when I first saw it. It may in fact be my favorite comic book movie (It sure beats "Smallville" to a pulp). Christopher Reeve is perfect as the Man of Steel who can still make Clark Kent a real and different character. Glenn Ford, Gene Hackman and most of all Marlon Brando are SO good that they make the overblown dialog seem natural. If you haven't seen this one in a while, rent it and enjoy it again.

One final aside. Terrence Stamp, who is General Zod in the first two Superman movies, plays the voice of Jor-el in Smallville. Ironic, no?

What is your favorite comic book movie?

I really like a lot of them. But Josie and the Pussycats I smart, funny, and clever, I can watch it over and over again.

Mainly because I LOVED this comic as a kid, and found the movie surprisingly touching.

Still Superman II, I love Terence Stamp in that movie. Superman is a great film but too long for me. The whole plot of the second fim where he gives up his powers whilst his father's enemies take over Earth is terrific.

Anyone remember the late 80s TV series "Superboy"?

Peter O'Toole?

Awful. Just awful.

they actually showed Supergirl on TV here not too long ago...and Simon wanted me to tell you that they might make a remake of Supergirl.

Copying GG & skinner - I didn't read many comic books but I too enjoyed the first X-men movie. I haven't seen the second yet. I also liked the first Batman movie.

But if you mean comic characters brought to life on the big screen, Hulk. Ang Lee gave a movie about the Hulk far more art than it deserved. The editing was frickin' brilliant.

X2 was also a lot of fun, but not nearly as well-made as Hulk (though it had more 'splody goodness, as well as JEAN!)

I will have to rent The Hulk.

I wasn't considering the Kevin Smith ouvre when I asked the question, but it's not a bad answer. "What's a Nubian?"

I know it's dumb beyond belief, but they just seemed to assemble the perfect cast.

Plus, Pugsley and Wednesday just killed me in the school play...

That's a good answer.

And when we went to see it, during the scene where Wednesday has Pugsley in the electric chair and says they're going to play a game called, "Is There a God?," Grim, my sister, and myself all laughed hysterically while the rest of the audience sat there stone-faced. Which just made us laugh more.

[> The Phantom. -- wwolfe, 18:56:34 11/30/03 Sun (209.179.216.225)

I remember reading this strip when I visited my grandma when I was a little kid. A lot of the comics started in the 1930s and I think the reason I like the movie version of this so much is that it's the one movie that captures the 1930s feel without trying for an updated modern voice. The simple humor and lack of ironic self-consciousness is refreshing. I think that's probably why both Kristy swanson and Billy Zande seemed at home in their roles - they're both straightforward, direct actors at heart, which would normally make them not so interesting, but here makes their characterizations more vivid. Also, Treat Williams is indeed a treat in his zesty performance as the villain. This movie isn't a great work of art, but it's a real work of fun.

I never read the comic (I never read any comics), but I remember really enjoying the movie.
