the plastic trim does not come off
if you remove the face of the cd player the is a metal eye on each side inside the plastic trim
stick a small screwdrive in each eye and lift them up
while pulling the cd player out

i had a cde-7830 and just bought a cda 7892

if you buy another alpine you will not have to change anything in the dash.
