i personally think that we should have both auctions going on at once. it wont be confusing because NEITHER groups will know the other exists. people bidding on ebay won't know about the auction we're having at the event, and people bidding at our event won't know about the one on ebay. it's pretty simple if you don't Let it get confusing. i mean, writing it all out makes it sound more confusing, right?
so here's what we'd do:
we'd put up the ebay auctions a few days before the event. (they would be scheduled to end on the same day as the event or a couple days later.)
during the event, we want everyone to bid throughout the night, which means, if it's 11:00 PM and there are still five people left, and they want to bid, we ENCOURAGE them to do so, so we can get the max out of everyone. we tell them that we will be calling the winners within the next couple days to let them know they won. we don't mention that we're doing this on ebay.
if the event "winners" have been outbid by the ebay bidders, then we just don't call them.
if the ebay "winners" have been outbid by the event bidders, then we just personally outbid the ebay "winners". it's not like we haven't done that before. :P
i know it sounds ultra-confusing, but it's really not... and i think it utilizes the items to their full extent, and in the end, RAINN will be getting more money out of it. because you know some of those items, like the Henry Rollins book and 3eb CD, will sell for a lot more on ebay, considering only 200 - 300 people will be looking at it at the event (two of which may actually give a damn), but millions of people may look at it on ebay. :PP but the gift basket stuff (the ones not going towards the raffle).. people on ebay probably wont care AS Much. but who knows!
it works, i swear to god. :P
