Subject: Man saves dog!

In a twist on the usual canine heroics in saving humans, the following story caught my eye last night:

MAN PULLS UNCONCIOUS DOG FROM BURNING HOUSE

Mon May 2 2005

A St. James man pulled an unconscious dog from a burning house yesterday afternoon, saving the animal's life.

Al Greenwood, 35, said he was delivering a bed to his brother-in-law's home on Buchanan Boulevard yesterday afternoon when he saw flames shooting out of the windows from the home next door.

"My brother and I ran over and kicked in the front door and started yelling to see if there was anyone inside," Greenwood said. "Then I ran around to the back and kicked in the back door.

"I could see a dog lying near the door and I thought it was already dead, but I pulled it out and we took it next door."

Greenwood said the dog later revived and was running in the area.

There was no one home at the time of the fire.
Greenwood said this was the first time he'd been involved in a building fire, but he never hesitated.

"As soon as we saw the flames, we just went," he said.

I swear this is one of my worst fears. To have a fire at home and have the pets trapped inside. Gives me the shivers.

She'd be happy with this story, dog-lover that she is.

You're right~ I did love this story! :o)
And as much as I would love to say that this could have been "the man", I can't as he is in Kuwait now, protecting a U.S. miltary base from evil terrorists. He will be home next year a little older, wiser, and a little more tan!
For other pet lovers (Bill and Patty in particular!), I would recommend what we use in case of fire; small but noticeable stickers we placed on the windows of our doors that state, "Please save our pets!" and lists what pets we have in our home. You should be able to pick them up at Petsmart or a similar pet store and possibly your local fire station. They also have these for childrens bedroom windows to let firefighters know that a child could be inside a burning home sleeping. (Reflective stickers that say "Tot Finder" on them. I got ours from our local firestation.
Also, a doggie door (if you have a fenced yard, of course) where pets can get out, I think, is a good idea.
Ok, Fire Marshal Boop is done!! LOL
