Subject: Reflections on metal detecting in SC

Recently transferred to SC from South Fla. There are differences in detecting between the two states.
First of all estatic to be here. Charleston area is alot "older" than S. Fla. I've found more older coins in a weeks time than I would have found in a month where I used to live.
---Mineralization, yes you do have some so I do have to manually ground balance the unit..
---Coins seem to sink more here. Most of the old stuff has been found at >6" depth. No, I can't explain it. Fla, has a sandier soil so you would think it would sink more. You have to detect slowly to listen for the weaker signals.
---Nails tend to rust more in the soil here. I use a Fisher CZ-5 which is famous for sounding like a coin with a "halo" rusty nail. Needless to say I've found enough nails to build a house.
---Fla. has more detectorists. I have yet to see anyone swing a detector. (But I have'nt visited any beachs yet)
---Fla. has more MD clubs. Still in disbelief that there are no clubs in the Charleston area.
---SC has more SNAKES...I'm ordering some snake chaps. I've seen enough. Just been lucky I have'nt been bit.
---Again happy to be here. Hope to see you in the field. HH...Wheat
