Subject: The nature of the business ...

is to screw people.

That's the way that rental companies work. If someone can't afford to buy something outright, they come to us and they end up, over an extended term, paying a premium for the product. Usually it's a multiple of the purchase price to the company.

To paint a picture, we will rent an X-Box out or a Playstation 2 and they are both the same rental price of $28.99 per week over 78 weeks ... Do the math kids.

Since the company is already of that mentality, it often translates to the employees as well ... Why only shaft a customer when I can shaft a staffer as well ?

Anyhow ... I was working so long at getting to know the job in and out and being able to do anything at it ... For instance, the 20th of the month is Baby Bonus day in Canada. Last 20th of the month, Roy and Aaron went out in the truck to Bancroft. That's at least a 3.5 to 4 hour turnaround trip, not to mention that Aaron has family out that way so they stopped in there and they also stopped for their lunch as well as stopping at the place they went out there to visit on business in an atempt to retrieve product from a skipped customer out of another region.
Steve had his normal day off (Wednesday)and Corrie is off on her pregnancy leave.

Alone in the store on what's normally the busiest day of the month and I did it all. There wasn't more than 5 minutes of idle time for me at all that day and I didn't get a chance to grab lunch since by the time Aaron and Roy got back, I had to go out with Roy to do some account runs and deliveries.

Since that day and for a long time running, I felt that if the company is going to pay me what they think I am worth, then I am only going to offer as much effort as they pay me for.

As far as overall worth to the company ? I can fix 99% of the computer problems that crop up from customer and a lot of those in the same day. Our service department, if I was to stop computer service, charges $35 an hour for that. Also, with the service department, our stuff is put in with other stuff and there's no guarantee that ours is done first. The company pays me a paltry $8 per hour and when I work on a computer problem, it's usually done in less than an hour dependant upon the extent of the damamge that someone has done via virus or overloading the system or whatever.

I am looking down the pipe at an expected raise, but I don't know how much it will be ... I guess I will have to see what it is and make a better decision based on that amount.

I hate waiting longer for it, though. I spoke to Aaron, the manager, and he claimed that Head Office takes a little bit to get it in motion. I'll have to see what the ol' paycheque tells me on the 15th.
