Subject: President honors Sitting Bull

Obama has written a book of heros for his children, and included is Sitting Bull. It's about time Sitting Bull was honored by mainstream America. He deserves a place right up there with Thomas Jefferson and George Washington. He was a great and wise man.
This thing about non native American children wearing Indian costumes. Did it ever dawn on some people that if non native American children start early to identify with Native Americans that this actually erodes prejudice? Why not let children emulate Sitting Bull, Crazy Horse and Black Elk. It can cause a child to think about other people's views of things. Hero worship of the right people is a good thing. Also keep in mind that children's play often emulates what they see on TV. The gross innaccuracies and prejudices in older westerns now has movies now like Bury my heart at Wounded Knee to give a reality check, and influences children who play the games. Children learn by pretending. It's no longer a game of the cavalry fighting the bad Indians. I don't think most white folks mean it as a desecration these days, but a way of honoring and identifying, despite the vocal minority who hate to see the history they were taught corrected and brought in line with what really happened.
Think of this, The music for Wounded Knee was powerful and sent an important message. Let the children emulate. That is how they learn.
I believe that eventually Sitting Bull, Crazy Horse, and Black Elk will find their proper places in the History books. I just hope I live long enough to see it.
