Dear Mr. Wilson - Be assured that you are not alone in your grief; it is shared by many, most of whom, like me, never had the opportunity to meet her. We envy you! I first became aware of her when my brother-in-law brought back from Tokyo the Golden Days record. With great difficulty, because EMI chose not to market her recordings outside of Japan, I tried to follow her career but eventually gave up. Although you produced "Overseas" in LA one could not find it available in this country. Honda Minako did not belong only to Japan, she belonged to the entire world.

Her voice, while powerful, has a quality of sweetness and niceness to it, a reflection of her persona. The music I love best is classical and her work beginning with "Kim" makes her loss especially painful to me. She was to the Voice what Jacqueline du Pre was to the Cello, both taken from us far too soon. Fortunately Brian May continues to help keep her memory alive and vibrant by his working on several of the recent compilations of her work. In my own small way I am trying to get a few broadcasters I know to play some of her music here in the U.S.

Take heart, you have a lot of company. Best wishes -

I really wish the stations would play her songs here.. I am glad that Brian May is working with the complilations. My songs that I recorded on Minako are now on cd and dvd and You Tube. I was in Tokyo 2 years ago and had dinner her manager. He gave me a unedited cd of Minako's Ava Marie..We both had tears in our eyes.

I will always miss her.

The problem is that the cds and records are not available here and most broadcasters and stations are reluctant to play music off YouTube.com because of copyright and royalty concerns. If the Golden Days record had been available here, I have no doubt that it could have topped the US charts; likewise several others like Heartbreak from Overseas. I do not know whether you follow Jazz, as Bill Myhugh and the late Felix Grant, both from WMAL in Washington, DC, were good friends of mine. Bill is retired and plays around with a 1,000 watt station in Northern Virginia. I think he will be playing some fairly soon.

I would give my eye teeth for a copy of the unedited Ave Maria, but I recognize that there are good reasons that would prevent you from making a copy. I think what Brian May has been doing just might result in her music getting played here IF EMI makes it available.

Thank you for getting back to me. I guess that when the Good Lord made Minako, He threw away the mold. She is to love.

For those who come here I wanted to say how much Minako's fans truly love her. We would have given her a kidney, taken a bullet from an assassin for her. She was beautiful, talented, sensual, warm, sweet...fully human. I must believe that her new life is unfolding happily in the auspices of Amida Buddha's Pure Realm of Influence. She was incomparable and I believe that the Buddha and the Universe itself must know the goodness her fans and friends saw in her. I produced her " Overseas " album and wrote HeartBreak, Sneak Away With Me and Girltalk for her. Dear Mr.Wilson, I am sorry for your loss. I became a fan of Honda Minako's when I was in Japan 1991-1994 and she remained special to me. While Seiko Masuda's fans may have longed for their idol Minako's fans genuinely loved her. We would have given her a kidney if she needed it, stood in front of her to take the bullet were she attacked by an assassin. I am convinced that millions of us still love her in that way. She was beautiful, talented, sweet, sensual, a complete human person. We all knew this just from C.D.'s and videos. I believe she is singing to Amida Buddha is the Pure Land now. She is also, in a real sense, a kami, a window into the inconceivable for many who would otherwise lack spirituality. The universe itself must sense the goodness her fans and her friends like you saw in her. More than an angel, as Brian May referred to her, a Bodhisattva and a goddess. I must seem very naive for a 59 year old man from the USA, but I am convinced that millions still feel what I do for her. Seems like this site has not been updated recently.
Yesterday Nov 06 2005, Minako Honda passed away at the age of 38 due to acutely marrow characteristic leukemia. She has been fighting with this since Jan 2005 by going through a couple of difficult operations. It was a quite a shock in Japan by losing such a talented singer who became one time very poplular as so-called Idel.
