The posters over there do NOT respect people who have differences in opinions. Status quo is ranting and flaming.
For me, it's just waaaaaaaaay too stressful to do that. And I learned the hard way. I used to go onto that board and post for fun, but people have a tendency to invest way too many emotions in entirely the wrong things and "playtime" reminds me too much of fighting dogs, going for the jugular. Flaming has never been anything that I've appreciated, even if it has not been directed at me, and neither will I participate in it. Rather, I prefer discussing differences with others as adults - ya never know, you might learn something ;)
I like posting in places like this board, our board, and some of the other allegiance boards to which I've been a party because there seems to be a mutual respect. There's an understanding when I post something "all in fun," or when I'm venting.
I'm trying to get all of the guild members to post here, too... Grey Fox, for example. I know that he likes the volume of posts that happen over there, and he really gets into the off-topic posts (one of the motivations for my asking, the other day, if I should initiate an off-topic board to link to this one). So, I'm working on it.
The other thing that I think that we have the power to do in forums like this one - and like the Dereth Mafia board, too, Six - is enact change, whereas, in a forum as large and wide-scoping as ACVault and the IGN boards, we do not. To initiate an action that would enact change over there gets you labeled as a "griefer," or a whiner, or gets you flamed. I am of a different mind, though; if you don't like something, do something about it... and I'm glad that, here, in this little neck of the woods, we can. We can speak our minds (even if we don't agree with one another!) without fear of being labeled.
Basically, I go to the Vault now for spoiler information. I know that Brute goes there for trading info (if you guys want a trading board, let me know, I'll hook one up for us). I don't go there to *bat eyelashes* like I used to because it's not "all in fun" for some like it is for me. And I don't wish to participate in demeaning others in a public setting when all that is usually needed is, perhaps, some one-on-one... or maybe even just some time away. I don't enjoy reading about people being abused on the boards for having their own opinions, etc.
So, no... come here and bring your questions, comments, and concerns. Invite your friends. That's what I'm here for and that is why the board was initiated. It's *OUR* spot where we can respect one another, say what we want to say, complain responsibly, encourage one another, etc. Basically, where adult common sense is applied, everything goes. Seriously.
