Larq, I'm impressed. For a swordswinger you almost got Dereth economics down to a T. No matter what something seems to be worth overall, its always worth more to someone else. (which reminds me of my first story for my character page. Its almost done.) Trading boards, in my opinion, are useless. If you want to know what something is worth, find out LIVE IN THE HUB. No one in all of Dereth gives a crap about what "Masonry" says an Item is worth or not worth,(he's notorious for that, as well as leading a group of thieves, but thats beside the point) and no one goes on the boards for honest trades anyway. From my years of trading I have found that boards are the Easiest way to rip someone off. Rookies post on the boards, and hunters who don't know better because either they will be laughed out of hub for lowball offers (it happens. you lowball a guy too bad and he will announce your offer to the entire hub. I've done it a few times for offers on my GSA)or be robbed blind with no knowledge of economics. Usually board hunters are looking for a steal. I love the "find me in game and well discuss this" reply. Its an attempt to give a lowball to a rookie without him being able to ask in the hub or let honest traders reply on the boards. My advice, go into the hub and shout out what an item is worth. pay no attention to private tells, unless you get a few with the same answer.(or if you know me, ask me!) Whatever you do, DO NOT talk about trading unless you know what its worth. Theres always some guy who says, "I'll trade you X for it" when you ask but before you learn what its worth so he can get it for a steal. Now, as for the folks who come up to you and ask to trade for your stuff. Larq, your guy was no rookie. hes a reroll. Rookies don't trade armor or weapons. EVER. Why? its simple. A rookie has a weapon or armor, he likes it, and by god he won't give it and other things up trying to get a better one. He'll get one from his patron or find it himself. Think about it. You're a n00b. you see a high lvl with an Amuli coat. Would you trade your ENTIRE suit of armor for on piece of better armor? NO. A n00b would offer 1 piece of Armor for 1 piece of armor. If it was a full suit he offered for 1 piece, it wouldn't match because he would be keeping spare armor to finish the suit. Besides, when you were a noob did you have ANYTHING more than your weapon and the armor on your back? You COULDN'T trade. Its common sense folks. Now Rerolls are different. Here's how they work. They pose as a n00b, who makes pitiful trades for awesome armor in the hope that you'll pity them and do it. Thats why can they offer stuff for your armor, they can get more with other characters. Its sleazy, but people do it, and people fall for it. My personal favorite was theis one guy in the hub who kept offering me olthoi helms(post patch) for my Heiromancer orb. That orb is designed for high lvl mages who want to show off. It has no practical purpose and it SAYS SO ON THE ORB. Why would a normal n00b want that? it doesn't help him. N00bs think about survival, Rerolls think about looking good and having cool equipment. My advice, no trading to anyone lower than lvl 20. By that point they are probably going to be serious about offers and not cheat you for fear of a bad rep. Always get the name of their PATRON AND MONARCH. They didn't swear to anyone, make them show up in a form that has. None of their people have sworn? Then no trade. Never accept lowball offers, and if all else fails, leave trading to the pros. The worst monsters in Dereth aren't in the Dires, they are in the Hub. Trading is like hunting Olthoi on ML. You wouldn't try to solo an Olthoi Evicerator @ lvl 10, you'd leave them for the best; so why try to trade when you can let a Crooked Grinner do it for ya.
