Hey all.
I have been struggling with a quesiton lately when I play AC and that question is.. what am I attempting to accomplish now?
Six has grown quite powerful over time and is very fun to play. Over the course of development I picked up arcane lore (buffs to 269 with little effort) and lockpick (buffs to a cool 345 at the moment). He's versatile enough to pretty much handle anything, and also makes a perfect backup character to take on quests with people.
I'm also a monarch. Recently, two of the people in my already small allegiance e-mailed me to express that they have had a wonderful time playing and being in my group, but that AC was taking too much of their time away and they had cancelled their subscriptions.
In the past I have played a sword character (Duncan) up past level 40, and a crossbow character (Amber) also up past 40. While I have not taken advantages of changes which were made post December 2000 to those classes, I have experienced them.
Lately when I play I find myself lacking the desire to do much. I don't need any items as a mage, really. My expenses such as plats and the like are WELL covered from both my own hunting and the generosity of friends.
I believe the problem stems less from boredom with the game than it does from never really doing things WITH people in game. Everyone I know either can't play as late at night as I tend to, or are very busy with things of their own. The only times I really go out hunting anymore are if a vassal specifically asks (a rare event, they too are all very self sufficient) or it Stoo is on and we go out marathon-blasting things.. which is very very fun.
Occasionally I get asked along on quests. The few I try to organize myself don't tend to pull together very well for some reason so I am more prone to joining up. I am glad to see the interguild questing going on.. but I suspect you have not had any participation at all from my clan, they are a hard bunch to get hold of.
I do still like to play AC quite a bit, and I enjoy the rare times I actually meet up with friends and go out to do stuff in game, but I am at a point where I am just not really enjoying things as much as I one did. Once upon a time if I logged on and nobody was around I wouldn't hesitate to gear up and go out exploring and mowing things down.
But at the point where my characters is pretty much as complete as he'll get, and can do nearly anything, it is just dull. Am I one of those people now who can begin to complain about a lack of high level content? I have to create my own challenged in game, since there are few that exist on their own.
