...we went to Morningthaw and started there from scratch, with nothing.
Now, I'm not suggesting that you go to Morningthaw, but, where you are pretty much all set with your current characters, maybe it IS time to try something new.
Reroll ONE character. Just one. Try a weapon that you've always wanted to try. And this time, when you reroll, don't do what your initial inclination is and set that character up with everything he/she needs to suddenly become level 30.
Instead, BE a newb. Do the Society/Exploration quests, wear newbie armor, be one of the first of us old-schoolers to try out the new newbie training grounds in Holtburg, Yaraq or Yanshi. Go into dungeons that you've never been in before - there are TONS of them out there. Put that one character in a town that you've never grown a character up in; if you started your other characters in Nanto and grew them up in Lin, start one in Yaraq and live there for a while, then move to Tufa.
And don't powerlevel.
And don't put the character in GSA from the get-go.
Level up slowly, learning all the ins and outs of that new weapon, exploring all of the new places and places that you've never been before. Start collecting, from scratch, the motes and shards that you will need for that character's upcoming Atlan or shadow armor... IF you're even going to use those items anyway.
Spend the time on your character that you would spend on him/her if you were new to the server or new to AC altogether.
If, with your previous characters, you always went to the Citadels at level 15, then the OHN and BSD later, for example, try a different set of dungeons.
For example... try a macewielder. Collect the pieces that you need to make your banderling mace. When you hit level 15, go to the first Krau Li dungeon and spend some time there bashing skeletons until you can survive long enough to get Mi Krau Li's jitte, guarded by a skel lord on the third level down. Meanwhile, collect motes for your Peerless Atlan Mace. When you hit level 20, find an outdoors spot that you've never hunted, and just have fun fighting there - EVEN if it means kissing the lifestone a few times 'cause you're not being constantly hit with VIIs. Earn the kind of death count that gives you good stories to tell people.
When you hit level 25, go to Krau Li's Labyrinth and play there until you get good enough to see Krau Li himself and turn in his jitte in exchange for his new, improved jitte.
If, along the way, you see a level 1-15 dungeon (for example, the Aun Papileona's dungeon for Reata's butterfly amulet), especially if it's one that you haven't been in before... go into it.
Or, grow your character up completely on ML. Start doing the low-level quests that none of your other characters can do because they've leveled out - the Palenqual Living Weapons quest, for example.
Keep a journal. Buy a tome and record the gametime date (i.e. Solclaim 23, 33 P.Y., warmtide) along with a note or two periodically. Post your journal entries on the Dereth Mafia Board... or send them to me and I'll throw 'em up on as one of the Clan Campfire pages.
Start a pilgrimage. Move from town to town, observing people and talking to the locals (i.e. the town criers). Delve into the lore. Perhaps, along the way, you'll also fall into a lifetime quest for that character, something that will define that character's ultimate purpose to you.
Jump onto the IQF board and call newbies together for a fight night. There are enough of us out here that have low-level characters (I happen to know, for example, that Doc, Brute, Grey, Lenin, and I - and I think Bard may, too - each do) that this could be a lot of fun :)
I guess the key is to completely look at the game in a different way. It's hard to slip into a newb mentality if you've been playing for a couple of years, but I promise you that, if you're able to do it, you'll uncover some fun.
