Capibara muttered and squeeked as he worked, to the disdain of his fellow officers. Many alternately wore earplugs or, given the option, simply tuned him out and tuned into transmissions regarding the status of the Dipscees. Most were in place now and it boiled down to a waiting game. Once he thought he saw a shadowy blip, but it swiftly faded from view.

The extra-large technorganic rat wiped drool on his forearm, snorted, and began running a check for any interference that might have accounted for the glitch. His beady eyes narrowed as he ran test after test, seeing nothing out there, and he hissed in disgust. Clearly he was wasting his time. In the days that followed, he would have ample opportunity to reflect on this premature assessment. But for now he had something to prove to the crew, to the Admiral. So despite his misgivings, he continued to scan...
