Dear Old Coach:
Those are excellent questions. I'm very proud that my son is studying journalism at Iona and I think he's doing a very good job of writing and reporting for the school paper. I think he's a very creative writer, more than I was as a kid. I'm also happy that he's branched out to do movie and music reviews, so he doesn't get stale with sports and becomes more versatile. I've told him that if he wants to get rich to avoid the newspaper industry and get into television or movies.
I think most of the people at Iona realize that I have no control over what my son writes. I never see it until I pick up the paper like everyone else. There have been a few times when word got back to me that Iona coaches and administrators didn't like something Ted wrote. But if I think it's fair, I don't say a word. I try to encourage him if he's doing the right thing. It's up to his editors to guide him. I don't think my relationship with any of the Iona people has changed dramatically since Ted started going to school there. At least, I hope not. After all, Iona keeps winning, so what's bad to write about?
