The winged alter-ego of Lieutenant Junior Grade Justin Grey strained as strong winds slowed his ascent. He could barely keep pace with Biggs, who had started climbing from the base of Mount Mon ahead of them. Chris and Mercado climbed not far below. Nathaniel chuckled at the irony.

"Merc's armor hasn't been working right in this crazy dream-place...otherwise his bootjets would put him easily higher up than these wings of mine. But here I am, carrying his brother, and slowed down by the effort. And we can't trust Raph either. He'd gladly watch Mercado die, even if it meant his own death. And anything we do to Raph hurts Merc because Raph is just a figment of his brother's imagination, as real here as my wings and as vindictive as the real Raph was. So like I told Merc before, I'm not gonna drop Raph as much as I feel like doing so. Guess I'll just have to be patient.

Nathaniel struggled as the winds worsened now, pushing him below where his companions climbed. Raph Sar struggled in his grasp, nearly wrenching free, but the winged aviator only tightened his grip.

"A promise....is a promise! You're not going...anywhere!!"

He soared upwards once more.

"Well, another holiday season and I'm away from the station, from Deb, worrying about someone else's problems. What else is new? Do I have a right to be depressed? Isn't piloting my first love? Isn't having wings of my own a dream literally come true? Or am I finally growing up a little, rethinking my priorities?

Yeah, right...who am I kidding? Air must be getting thin. I'm as likely to give up flying and take some boring desk job on Rugby as Deb is to take me back. Settling down? Raising a family? That's the real dream, Grey. And real dreams seldom come true..."
