I watched it sink
ever deeper
into that black pool
towards
an abyss.

And that door
that opened
so abruptly
letting a ghost escape
to flutter here
next to me.

And the bodies
that floated by
with their sightless eyes
searing my mind
with their knowledge.

And the words
that kept swimming
through my head
reminding me
of a hundred yesterdays and tomorrows
that never happened.

And my heart
so drawn
to all that darkness
feeling propelled
through that day.

And the risk
of becoming
someone unreal
and intrigued
by that thought.

And the steps
so rarely taken
landing doorways
all
are locked.

And the rambling,
murmuring voices
slipping further
from
this place.

And in a moment
of total clarity
the liquid rendered
me insane.

Mona Lisa, how wonderful to read you again, and your poem is most excellent. Wondered where you were - now I know! Really beautiful poem.
