Hi Tess,
I couldn't get the link to work but I think I know the article you're referring to.

Just as an FYI: JCAHO also accredits Home Care agencies, Hospices, and Nursing Homes. It it a rigorous process. Hospitals and other facilities pay a lot of money to voluntarily submit to intense scrutiny that can affect their income. Most insurance agencies will not put non-accredited facilities on their provider lists.

When I worked for a Home Care agency several years ago is when JCAHO first came out with pain evaluation guidelines. That's what they called them, but what they really are, are rules. If facilities don't abide by these rules and document that they have done so for each and every patient, they lose their accreditation. Losing accreditation is a big deal and can result in losing income. (Sometimes the auditors make surprise visits too.) JCAHO has a excellent reputation for holding medical care facilities to high standards. I was so happy when I first read the guidelines and statements they made on pain years ago. It was long over due. I'm glad the JCAHO are still working on it.

How are you Tess?

Love ya,
Alison
