Subject: Happy Thanksgiving . . .

Happy Thanksgiving to you all. I know I don't post often but I do read and you are all in my thoughts and prayers.

I was finally approved for full benefits with SSDI. The judge set a date, received my file, reviewed the information and waived the hearing with full approval. I didn't have to go to court afterall. At first this was a good thing and a bad thing because I was concerned about losing my health insurance through my employer (long term disability insurance has been paying the premium). But I found out that the premium waiver will continue as long as I'm disabled. The other good thing is that if SSDI pays me less that LTD insurance has been paying then they make up the difference and if SSDI pays more then I get $100 a month from them.

The only bad news is that my entire settlement (back pay from date of disability) from SSDI goes to attorney's fees and to reimburse the LTD insurance for what they have been paying that SSDI should have been. After being unable to work since July 2001, I was hoping that the large lump sum of cash would get us out of debt so that the monthly payments would stretch farther. But that's not going to happen.

I'm counting my blessings though. At least my health insurance continues to pay for my meds and my families health coverage and I'll get at least the amount of money every month that I've been getting. I was a basketcase before I found out that LTD wouldn't just drop me because I'd been approved for SSDI.

Healthwise: I'm struggling. The FDA made guaifenesin an over-the-counter medication. Insurance won't pay for it anymore. The OTC form has blue dye in it which has salicylates in it and blocks the kidneys from getting rid of the cellular waste that the guai releases from the muscles. My pain levels have skyrocketed because of this change. My headaches are worse. The nausea is worse. ETC. ETC. But life goes on and there is much to be thankful for.

I hope you are all doing well and will have an enjoyable Thanksgiving with loved ones (friends and/or family).

(((hugs))))
Alison
