There is definately a difference between english and Australian accents. Even between different areas of both countries. People in different states use different terms, words, accents, and that's true of both countries.
Classic example: I remember reading something about someone calling Will Snow a "spunk rat" and him saying he'd never heard it and that it wasn't Australian. Well it is, at least it's used in the part of Australia I live in. Probably not where he grew up though.....
Maybe it's a Melbourne thing!! (I think Rachel Blakeley is from this part of the world, at least she lived here for years when she was on Neighbours and Blue Heelers)
Trust me, we all have different accents, and there are variations in the way people in Victoria will say chance, dance, plant etc to the way they do in NSW, just north of the border. Very very different!!!
I find it fairly easy to pick a Canadian accent too. You guys have different vowel sounds to Americans. Just like Australians v. New Zealanders.
