she stared around her eyes wide with fear... she calmed down right away as she saw the wonderful clutch of leathery white eggs... she slowly walked out onto the sands over to the other canidates... sitting down she drifted into her thoughts......slowly Vilaya looked at the crowd of hopefuls and she knew that she was going to ave a rough time.

-The brown haired male walked onto the sands, white robe billowing behind him- -- Aetriven, 20:23:51 12/27/01 Thu
-He looked around through amber hues. There were still 11(?) eggs left on the Sands, and he had only seen one other Candidate. What would become of the other eggs, he wondered to himself as he made his way across the white-hot grains of sand, jaw set as he endured the heat. He glanced around at the shards of egg that the hatchlings had left behind, some still glistening in the sun. The Queen had already hatched. But who Impressed it? The 16 Turn old looked around at the rocking mottled shells. Did one still hold a dragon that would Impress him. He'd been searched and had been found suitable...but would that be enough. The doubt stricken youth edged closer to the eggs, waiting to Impress.-

*Looks at the beautiful eggs...hoping that she could Impress* -- Tara Lynn, 12:10:34 12/26/01 Wed
She is but 14, average height, with angled hair framing her face and blue-green eyes sparkling with something crossed between tears and happiness. She suddenly gets a chill and wraps her father's jacket around her tightly. Her mind starts whirling with memories and she collapses onto her knees clutching the saphire necklace her mother gave her for her 13th turn birthday. The jacket and the necklace are the only physical items she has left of her wonderful family, but the memories linger crystal clear in her mind. One of the most vivid ones is of her and her family sitting by the fire just talking in December,1 turn ago. It was right before the plauge hit her village. All of her family caught it except for her and her then 11 year old sister Kari. Her father, youngest sister Amii who was 3, youngest brother Kaine who was 5, and second youngest brother who was 8,Andrew, all got a horribal case of it. Somehow her mother caught it but remainded fairly healthy. Kari already had a hint of sickness so they had to leave the small village and journey to a place where health was more than just a dream. On the long journey, Kari got too week to continue and was left with a nice small family in a village Tara Lynn does not remember the name of. Tara Lynn continued on to this place and her biggest wish is for her family to somehow find her. Her second biggest wish is to Impress, as she despretly needs a companion.

The man slipps in and quickly got to work. He knew pickpocketing at the Weyr was dangerous, but it would be a good way to get some loot for the new renegade band, especially during a hatching for many rich people come to view it. The man's efforts were soon rewarded and his pockets began filling.

A medium-sized egg is rocking violently. A tail pokes out, then a claw. Soon the other claws break through the shell, splitting it into several pieces. A green hatchling stumbles out, creeling. Turning her head to survey the area, she heads for one of the candidates.
Food....I want food....
She butts against one of the candidates, her eyes whirling red.

Another egg is wobbling -- Bronze Dragonet Væmith, 16:41:55 12/14/01 Fri
A little larger than eggs left, but smaller than eggs hatched, this one is quite lax, just wobbling every now and again. Then, without warning, both wings break through the eggshell, shattering it into pieces that fall to the floor. The bronze hatchling gives the shards a disdainful look, as if to say 'so there' and turns, flicking eggshell with his tail.
As his hunger makes itself known, his eyes turn red, and he walks and wobbles over to a candidate. He walks calmly up and looks into the male's eyes, accepting the link and bonding his life mate.
I am Væmith, and I am yours, Br'en. May we go and eat - I am hungry.

She's so big! he thought, and crept up to the sands, not wanting to disturb anyone. He watched a brown dragonet break free of its shell and scuttle to its lifemate, practically seeing the eternal bond form then and there.
Amazing... If only he could bond a dragon... that would be the greatest gift he could ever hope of recieving. He returned his gaze to the unhatched eggs, wondering if his lifemate could be inside one of those mottled shells.

The inhabitant of the egg is trying very hard to break through the shell. With a mighty heave, two wings appear through the sides of the shell, then the egg splits into pieces. They fall away, leaving a brown on the sands, his wings still extended. He sniffs warily at the egg, then turns around, creeling hungrily.
He is right beside Aaron, and butts against his legs.

Metirth bugles, happy that there are candidates and her eggs have begun hatching again, but still worried for more candidates must be found - there are only two candidates on the sands, maybe soon to be one, and 15 eggs still to hatch.
The egg shatters completely to reveal a blue hatchling creeling hungrily. He wanders over the sands, trying to reach the candidate he seeks. He falls, crying out, then struggles to his feet again. Reaching the feet of a candidate, he looks up and his eyes flash blue for a second.

"Well there we go... I was begining to think they wouldn't hatch. Sierian!" Malaika quickly used the chirping system they'd developed over time to guide the blind rider towards the Weyrwoman. He held out two eggs to her, both of which hatched; one a bronze and one a blue. Inside the pot the third egg hatched, a blue flit.

~A slight change of heart~ -- Ain, 16:03:15 11/26/01 Mon
~Ain sighed and looked blankly at the heap of sand at her feet. Her dark grey eyes held a tamed thunderstorm, grown weary over the years of being bottled up inside her. But now wasn't the time to release it. Not yet. Not until she Impressed. She had to make a good impression on the large hulk of gold standing gaurd over the rest of the eggs. But...if all she had heard about Impressions were true, then the hatchlings would know her heart right after they hatched. The very thought struck fear into her ice-glazed heart, chilling it even further than she had imagined. Someone -something- would knew her very personally, and the thought scared her. She took a step back, eyes wide in cold fear. Was she really right for this? Shouldn't she go back home? But, what was home? Home wasa little shack in the middle of nowhere that held a small family that reared children to be cold-hearted brutes. Ain had managed to escape without the brute part, but she was the most cold-hearted of them all. Her sister had become the brute, but her will was as weak as water trying to hold a boulder.
Ain breathed out slowly, regaining her calm outward mask. No, she couldn't let the thought scare her. She had nearly risked running out in the most undignified way. And since she would be here a while, she might as well get to know someone. And that someone was in the Sands with her. She turned to Aaron and gathered her courage enough to take the first step towards him. Once the first obsticle was through, the rest of the way was easy. When she reached Aaron, she moved beside him, staring out over the eggs.~
"Look, Aaron. I'm sorry if I was...distant before. It's just that this place if different than any other place I've been and it's unnerving. It makes me wonder how you can appear so calm in the face of fear, if you even fear this experience."
~She sighed and looked over at him, mousey brown hair falling over part of her face. she brushed it away quickly~
"I just wanted to see if you would be my friend."
~The word edged off her toungue, the only dischordent thing in her small speech. The word was unfamiliar to her as she had been raised by a harsh family.~

Walks in... -- Lexa, 13:22:49 11/25/01 Sun
Lexa walks in slowly and respectfully, looking around. Her newly Impressed brown fire lizard, Dusk, flies upward to perch somewhere with more altitude, to get a good view of the sands. Lexa walks up to the sands, gazing on the eggs with awe.
_It would be amazing to Impress a dragon,_ she thinks, remembering how wonderful it was to Impress even the little fire lizard. Then she sees what she'd been looking for -- the Queen egg. She walks over to it, silent and cautious out of enormous respect. She is in complete awe of the beautiful egg, her nearly life-long dream only surfacing in flashes as she stares at the egg.
She'd always dreamed she'd Impressed a Queen, and could reinstitute one of the two still empty Weyrs. It was a silly dream, she always told herself, but now the egg was so close...
Gathering courage, she reaches out and touches the egg gently with her fingertips. It is so warm, so full of life, it seems as if the tiny Queen inside was already willing to break out of the shell and live. It probably wouldn't happen soon, though, she told herself. And even then, the Queen would probably not look to *her*. _Well, one could always hope,_ she thought, and contented herself with gazing throughtfully at the beautiful egg.

~New Candidate~ -- Ain, 21:34:30 11/19/01 Mon
~The rather short girl enters the Sands, a tattered cloak wrapped around her slim shoulders. Stone hues veiw the great Queen hesitantly. She was so big, and Ain was so small. What would such a large creature do to her? Would the gold do anything at all? Well, she could always stare, and staring was the worst thing she could do. The 14-turn old gil moves over the Sands and into a shaded spot, hoping to remain hidden from veiw. The only reason she was here was because her parents had kicked her out of the house...~
"And stay out!" her father called, wiping his hands on his dirt-stained pants.
"An' don't yew come back unless yew've got yerself a 'lizard-thingie!" her step-mother had added, noding her plump head. Ain had rolled her grey eyes, turning and calling back at her,
"They're DRAGONS!" Ain barely had time to duck the clay pot that had been thrown at her.
"Dun't you DARE talk ta me like that, child! In fact, dun't yew come back 'ere at all!" her step-mother's voice had snarled at her. Ain shrugged and slung her bag over her shoulder and headed on, looking back only to catch a last glimpse of her sister.
~Ain shuddered at the thought of her sister. Always the good little girl. The blonde beauty had attracted all the attention, making her look bad. There was nothing she could do about it now. The only thing she had left of home was the tattered cloak around her shoulders and a silver charm. It was a firelizard. Her real mother had made it for her. Her sister had the matching copy. Ain sighed and ran a clean hand through her black-grey hair, brushing it away from her face. It could be a long wait, but she knew her sister would turn up here, too.~

Alone... -- Aaron, 14:40:27 11/17/01 Sat
The boy of 14 approaches the clutch on the Sands, surprizing calm for a Canidate. Stopping he ran his hand across a nearby egg, noting at all the eggshells around him. But he wasn't too late. Pressing his ear to the egg he listened intently for any signs of it hatching, then he sighed stepping back slightly, then smiled, it was almost noon, the sun warming the eggs and unfortunately, the Sand itself. Touching the egg again he let his thoughts drift apart from each other...
" Aaron, Whadda gonna do when you are a dragonrider?" His younger brother had.
" Dragonrider, where'd you get that idea?" He said grinning broadly.
His young brother had just found out that was where Aaron was headed, " I overheard mom an' dad talking." Aaron nodded, patting his brother on that back, " Wait til' your of age, then you can join me." His brother had nodded and ran off, returning with a carving of his own, " It's you." He said, then held up another crude carving, " That's your dragon, You'll tell me what color you impress... ok?" Aaron had nodded, ruffling his brother's hair fondly, " I will, I promise." His brother frowned slightly and looked down at the ground, " Do I really gotta wait 4 years til I can 'press..." Aaron nodded, " Hey don't worry, 4 years will fly by so fast..." He said no more instead just smiled once more, " Four years will fly by like that." He snapped his fingers, " Then you can come and join me, if you want."
Aaron smiled, touching the carved dragon and dragonrider underneath his light white cloak, he would never forget who he was, nor let fantasy cloud reality...
Clearing his thoughts he shut his eyes, letting the afternoon sun warm his body, No doubt visible on his face... His thoughts melted into dragon wings, agile and yet indomitable. Free at last!

Another mottled egg begins shaking -- Green Dragonet Piryth, 17:55:41 11/06/01 Tue
The shell resists the efforts of the dragonet within, but the need to escape allows the young dragon to force herself through. Cracks appear on the eggshell, extending to encompass the whole egg. the pieces stay together for a second, then fall off of the hatchling, allowing a glistening green to look around, eyes whirling angry red.
She pushes away the remaining shell, and surveys the area. Eyes locking onto a lone figure on the sands, she emits an excited squawk and bounds over to her, hunger overriding all other emotions.
She tumbles at Raen's feet, looking up and her eyes flashing blue as impression is made. They then are dominated by red again, as the dragonet makes herself clear that she is hungry.
Raen, I am Piryth. I am hungry...I need to eat! I need food! Please....

A question and hopefully a impression> -- Raen, 17:36:26 11/04/01 Sun
A girl walks in wearing the white robes of impression. She didn't know what to do, she was lost, frankly she was very lost. She shrugged her shoulders, hey she was lost, but ya there had to be someone human or Dragon who could help her. She says aloud to nobody in paticular, "Um, hi, I'm Raen, m'sister is Lyra a Southern rider. I'm hoping to become a Rder 'ere, but I think I was sposed to go to a Hold or Hall, bu' I don't see any fo' this Weyr, maybe cou'd I just Impress?"
She sits down, and thinks about her life so far...
She was born a few months after her sister, and had entered the world strong and bold, unlike her sister whom was somewhat timid. She had always hoped to be a Rider, even though her mother was alays telling her to become a Crafter or something of that sort.
After Lyra left to become a rier, she hd persisted and persisted wanting nothing more than to becom a Rider, and soon her mother agreed. Raen then searched for a Weyr and had found this one, and now would wait however time it needed before she could be come what she most wanted to be.. a rider..
Raen sighed, and waited, eyeing the eggs, and biting her lip, grasping the boulder she sat on until her fingers bled. She was nervous would she Impress or would she have to be something she wasent??

Impress? -- Taro, 05:59:15 10/24/01 Wed
The boy walked out unto the sands, staring longingly at the remaining eggs before positioning himself near some of the larger ones, then stepped backward, Wonder if I'll impress... I'll just try to, give it my all. He stepped forward again, and suddenly was caught in an distant memory...
"Taro, what is that? Behind your back...."
"Nothing... nothing at all...jus' air."
"Is it another firelizard egg? If it is..."
"I know.. I know, Put it back."
The young Taro let his shoulders sag, and walked, very slowly, back to teh beaches where he had found the eg, hoping it may hatch before he got there. Feeling the need for revenge, he spent the night on the beaches... The next morning though... thread fell...He was crieing, as the firelizards fought above him, then he saw it... Dragons! There he was, standing outside in a thread fall, he could not think of anything but the Dragons, swooping, darting, skipping...A minor threadscore was well worth the watch... and since then, since he was only 9 this is what he had wanted to do... and here he was.
His thoughts dissolving he smiled, and took another step forward, courage renewed. He looked at the queen, then to it's rider, " It's an honor." He whispered, talking though rather to the dragon eggs themselves...

One more egg starts rocking, subdued, as if it can sense only one candidate is on the sands -- Brown Dragonet Xanth, 02:24:12 10/22/01 Mon
It rocks, then the mottled shell splits open, allowing a small wet dragonet to roll out.
The brown rights himself, then looks around, seeming alone and frightened, and above all hungry. He turns around, and his claw gets caught on his wing, sending him tumbling to the ground again. The small dragonet creels, and untangles himself, standing again. This allows him to spot Jyxom. With a hungry squawk, he moves towards the boy, but trips over his long, uncontrollable tail. This dragonet seems to be quite ungainly, even klutzy. Finally he reaches Jyxom, and extends his nose to look up at him.

A young boy, younger then was, was playing near the riverside... the water rushing past unnoticed... almost.
Then a shove from behind, a satisfied shout, " I see you hear 'gain, I'll kill you, hear?" The child already was terrorfied... after his foster parents had died... his oldest brother had taken over the small farm... and he did everything in his power to make Jyxom miserable. But now all the thoughts had ran through his mind were the ones of horror, and sadness, until his head hit a rock and he blinked out of consicousness...
He would forgive his brother for all he had done now, that he would do, but he never saw the home he had once known anymore... Only in his dreams... or nightmares. Not wanting to let his thoughts overwhelm him he raised his head and his eyes fixed on the remaining clutch...

Soon after the queen has hatched, another egg starts rocking -- Green Dragonet Runith, 17:17:37 10/15/01 Mon
This one is nowhere near as subdued as the queen had been, rocking violently. A shard breaks off the top, and a nose pokes through. A wingtip struggles through the hole and enlarges it, shattering more of the egg. Then the other wingtip breaks through the side of the egg, and the egg shatters, the shards falling in a heap at the talons of a gangly green.
Looking around, she seems lost, more or less alone on the sands. She then spots a candidate, and stumbles her way towards her, creeling. Flapping her wings to retain her balance, she makes it to the feet of the candidate, and looks up. Her eyes meet, and with a joyful cheep relays the message of impression to her lifemate.

-Shock- -- Rinali - Lilith, 14:51:26 10/15/01 Mon
-Rinali stared down in disbelief at the golden form in front of her.She swallowed heavily, not aware of the two girl leaving. She sank slowly to her knees, a hand reaching out to brush away a small lump of sand that had gathered on the golden hide. All the while her eyes were lockedon Lilith's.-
'Lilith?'
~Yes?~
'Why?'
~Why what?~
'Why did you choose me?'
~Because I felt you were the one.~
'Really? I'm the one you always dreamed about? The one you always longed for before you Hatched.'
~Yes, you were the one I Hatched for and the one I waited for. You were the only one I would have chosen. And I would have done the same in another choice.~
-Rinali blinked back a tear of amazement. So young and yet so sure of her choice. How could she know she'd picked right? But who was she to doubt the little Queen's choice. A slow smile spread across her face in a delayed expression of joy. Rinali reached out and wrapped her arms around the gold, grinning as if it was the best thing that had happened to her in all her life. And it was.-
~Rinali?~
'What is it?'
~I'm still hungry~
'Oh, right. Let's take care of that now.'
~A little slow, but I'm glad I chose you.~
'Hey! Can't a girl have a sentimental moment?'
~Not when I'm hungry!~
-Rinali stood, allowing the Queen to leave the Sands first. She turned around, eyes searching the Sands. She stared. Jenna. And Riyana! Where did they go? They must have left. And they didn't tell her. She bit her lip andmanaged a smile for J'dan and Anna. At least Anna was still here. But she would find Riyana and Jenna. They couldn't get away that easily. At the persistent nudge of the gold, Rinali turned and left the Sands.-

~ inside ~ -- Anna & J'dan - Zephyth, 13:53:58 10/15/01 Mon
J'dan had come back out to watch some more Impressions, and came just as the Queen Egg had begun it's shaking and cracking. Zephyth, eyes whirling ever so quickly, began to croon softly as the little queen came out of the confines of it's shell. {She is perfect!} Zephyth declared to J'dan happily. "And she picked Rinali!" J'dan said, just as happy as his Dragon. His eyes surveyed the remaining Canidates, stopping abrutly as he noticed his twin.
Anna smiled as she watched the Queen go to Rinali. She knew that Rinali deserved the Queen. Who do I deserve? She thought quietly to herself. Hm... there are still so many eggs left! Will one come to me? She wondered. Her eyes, too, began to search around the Sands, and she caught her brother's gaze, smiling at him happily...

She mumbled and before anyone could take notice, quietly walked off, Levi appearing on her shoulder to comfort her lifemate. She was the one to convince me to even try anyway... Then suddenly she turned, " Good Luck!" She called out. Then quickened her pace, heading where ever the road took her...

Out of all waiting, only one shall impress the queen.... -- Gold Dragonet Lilith, 22:34:17 10/14/01 Sun
The queen egg rocks slowly, and Metirth, ever the protective mother, glares at the candidates circling around the egg. She hisses, eyes whirling red, at the girls hoping to be with her daughter for life. The egg is rocking faster now, the shell showing signs of strain but no cracks as of yet. There is a cloak of tension over the whole sands, no sound except the humming of the dragons and fire lizards, and the occassional hiss from Metirth.
Sierian sends an order to Metirth, knowing without it she will never get the gold to move.
"Metirth, back away. Your new daughter needs to impress, and that won't happen if you scare all the girls away."
If they scare easily they should not be here in the first place.
"Metirth, three steps back, and stop hissing."
Metirth glares at Sierian, then takes one step back, the hissing stopping. After a hesitation she takes the other two steps, leaving the queen egg clear.
"Much better, Metirth."
The girl better be worth it.
"You know she will be."
The egg is still for a heart-stopping moment, then the wings of the young gold extend, splitting the shell into two halves. The halves fall away, leaving the golden hatchling standing on the sands. She takes a step away from the egg, not one of the stumbling dragonets but a young queen, sure of herself and her abilities. Her hide glistens wetly in the sun, and she extends her wings to try and dry them. she looks at the semicircle of girls, and starting at one end, looks each one over with critical eyes.
Each girl gets looked over, the hatchling obviously searching for something. After completing the semicircle, but for one girl, she looks back at her mother. The large gold rumbles encouragement to her daughter, who trills a response and then looks again to the sands, and the candidates.
Metirth looks to Conoth, her eyes coloured with love and passion. She goes to his side, and together they watch the impressions continue. This has been a good clutch so far, although the bronze count has been lower than usual. But then, there were still many eggs left to hatch - and people aspiring to be dragonriders. Fortunately, there was hardly ever a shortage of people wishing to impress.
The hatchling walks up to the remaining candidate, eyes red with urgency. She looks over this candidate, and her eyes gain a tinge of blue. This is obviously the girl she has been looking for. the small golden form headbutts the lucky candidate, her manner turning from searching to demanding in an instant. She is much the little queen, but now she knows her purpose. She is complete. She looks up at the candidate, creeling imperiously.
I am Lilith, and you are my lifemate, Rinali. I want food. I am so very hungry.

-Breathless- -- Rinali, 20:22:30 10/14/01 Sun
{I might as well join the competition! It looks like we're all doing something. I'm not quite sure what though...lol}
-The girl, well woman really, stood riveted, eyes locked on the Queen egg. She didn't have to worry about any of the others watching her, they were most likely doing the same. Time seems to stretch and lengthen, drawing out every minute, every second, every ounce of her being into one, long, tense waiting period. A shiver ran down her spine despite the near-unbearable heat. But anything was bearable. Any was bearable to watch the Queen Impress. Even if the Queen wasn't hers, it'd have to be someone on the Sands. And everyone left standing were her friends. So she would be happy nonetheless. A voice penetrates through the thickness of her mind, echoing slightly until she can grope it into understanding. Her head snaps over to Riyana in a delayed reaction. She grins and waves to everyone.-
"Good luck to you, too, Riyana! Good luck to everyone! May the best Candidate-no, right Candidate Impress!"
-With that said, she slips back into a thought cloud, grasping it like it was the last thing left for her. A face slowly came into focus. Golden blonde waves of hair framimg a solid face. Sparkling pale green eyes shining out amoungst the tears of sorrow in his eyes. She saw herself standing off a ways, watching him silently, a turn older. The older sister. Always the protector. She'd promised him he wouldn't be the only rider in the family. Besides her other sister. No, she'd find him and make him see she could be just like him. But no, she'd gotten over it. She only wanted to find him so they could talk again. But now wasn't the time to think about. She had to concentrate on the here and now. She shook her head sharply, bringing her eyes to rest once again upon the egg.-

Watching -- Jenna, 17:59:04 10/14/01 Sun
Hazel colored eyes continue to watch the golden egg. Then close as a distant memory envolps her being...
It was always the same dream, again and again...
The sound of hoofbeats...
An angry shout...
Always the same...
Vision blurred, fear overwhelming...
The shout drowned out by the hoofbeats...
Always the same...
Hoofbeats louder...
Echoing through her mind...
All she had strived to forget, coming back...
Any unforunate turn of events...
Silence.
She opened her eyes, bewildered...
She hadn't had that dream since...
No. She told herself. Pushing away all other thoughts, no time to remember... Just do your best... They became more of a command each time she repeated them... finally managing to evade the dream that was once reality...
The queen egg... Think of the queen egg.
She told herself again. Spirits rising again with renewed hope...
and try to do my best...

~ watchful ~ -- Anna, 16:03:05 10/14/01 Sun
As the Queen Egg began to shake, Anna's eyes became wide. Surely she would have no hope of Impressing the Queen! One of the other girls would, not her. All four of her fire lizards flying through the air just above her head, all trilling in their high-pitched tones, she carefully stepped up to the Queen Egg. She watched as it shook, shimmering in the sunlight. It was almost time for the little Queen to escape the confines of the shell, to come out and to seek her life mate. Even if I don't Impress the Queen, I might Impress a green or blue! Anna thought to herself hurridly, trying to cling to that thought. She mustn't lose hope! She worridly looked up at the wonderous Golden Queen Dragon standing guard on her golden egg as it shook. Anna bit one lip, and she waited...

%Riyana stood watching the egg as it shook, momentarily looking back at the others% -- Riyana, 09:26:19 10/14/01 Sun
%She gave a encouraging smile and waved at the other femme. She looked like a ball of nerves, scared and doubtful. Riyana turned back to the Queen egg, the smile dissapating. Tension was becoming overwhelming, and minutes dragged slower and slower as they stood on the burning Sands. Her feet stung with the heat and her robe was now a duller white from her previous fall, the sand clinging to the threads. Thoughts and memories ran wild through her head, each displaying itself in front of her eyes. Could she Impress this Queen? What would happen after? What if she didn't? The last question she could answer; she'd still wait on the Hatching Sands until she did. The green orbs were slightly glazed in thought, half watching the egg while staring straight through it, lost in her thoughts. The hum of the dragons was so distant, the bugling of the Queen deafening but barely heard. Wtaching Al'dar Impress had lightened her mood slightly. Watching something like that could bring joy to any mind. Her attention was ripped back onto the Sands as a firelizard popped in from Between% "Saito?" %It was her father's flit, a plucky little blue. Cheeping, he stretched out his foreleg, where a small note was attached. She untied it, stroked the firelizard, and sent him off. Unrolling the note, it read:%
Though you might of already Impressed, we just wanted to wish you best of luck. Your brothers miss you, but they're ecstatic that they can actually do a job. Visit us once you Impress, we know you'll do well.
%the note wasn't signed, but she knew who it was from. She grinned, her confidence returning as she watched the egg rock, still struggling to break it. With a grin, she looked up at the Queen, knowing that she'd Impress. It might not be the Queen, but she'd Impress sooner or later.%

Watches -- Jenna, 07:21:43 10/14/01 Sun
She watches the bronze impress and smiles, then looks to the others...It was clear she would almost never impress, they were so happy and so sure of themselves... and her, she was doubtful. Even if she did impress, would she be able to cope with the responsibility that would be laid on her shoulders? Unspoken grief washed over her, and she finally admitted it to herself, She was scared. If she wasn't worthy, if she wasn't smart enough, kind enough... Whatever she lacked they possessed... but now wasn't the time to let doubt overwhelm her, now wasn't the time to give up... She wasn't like that, she wasn't a quitter. Stepping closer to the egg, she smiled faintly and promised herself, that she would do her best and more.

%The grin was once again present on her features% -- Riyana, 21:50:17 10/13/01 Sat
%She nearly let out a holler of joy. She had come right before the hatching of the Queen, what luck. She walked swiftly up next to Rinali, briefly flashing Al'dar a smile and a thumbs-up before turning her attention toward the bugling Queen and her daughter, who would son make her belated entrance into the world. A challenge it would be to Impress the Queen. Rinali seemed like the kind of character to Impress the small gold, lively and bright like Riyana, and the same age. It would most likely come to them, but she hadn't talked to the other femme who still stood dragonless. Nevertheles she sidled closer to the immense Gold, her eyes sparkling in a defiance that was somewhat respectful, if that could even be achieved. The intricate mottled pattern of the shell between the waiting forearms lured her still closer as she walked within distance, all other eggs behind her. I think I could Impress the Queen...it's always possible, but Rinali...she's been here longer than I, would that effect the hatchling's choice? The doubts came from the back of her mind, but she quickly pushed them away, her face lit with the odd grin, green orbs fixed on the shell as it shook, the small creature inside beginning its struggle for freedom. Riyana stood as an onlooker and a Candidate, feeling as if she was watching herself fom the stands, distant from everything around her except that egg. This is quite a moment of truth, isn't it? She thought to herself, resisting the intense wish to reach out and touch the sphere, slender fingers twitching. The red-eyed Queen still bugled her unwillingness to give up her daughter, the opalescent ((PSAT word!)) hues shining brilliantly. Must be hard, giving her up to make a life-long decision before she's even hatched...yet she has to... A genuine small raced across her features before she turned and grinned to every femme that had formed the circle.%
"Best of luck to everyone!"
%She turned back to watch the egg, the wind already loosening the bun she had fixed earlier as wisps flew down into the shimmering green hues of the femme.%

-Scoots out of her spot- -- Rinali, 20:59:20 10/13/01 Sat
-The girl moved, just barely, closer to the now moving Queen egg. She had to have courage, she chided herself, but still couldn't bring herself any closer. Particuarly from the looks Mertith was giving the rest of the Candidates - all girls. All trying to become Junior Weyrwoman. All trying to take her baby. Rinali didn't blame her. She'd probably be a protective mother. She smiled slightly, wiping a trickle of sweat from her brow. Hours of waiting in the Sands was starting to get to her. But it would all be over soon. Hopefully. Whoever Impressed Mertith's child would be able to leave the heat, but more importantly, with an Impressed. She grinned and waved to A'lindar as he left, happy for him, even if they never really got to know each other. She beckoned to Jenna and Riyana to join her. She'd rather be surrounded by friends and not Impress the Queen, then be alone and do. Friends were priceless, and that's why she wanted as many as she could make. She'd spent too long without them. But soon, her eyes, as well as all others, were drawn to the Queen egg. Her breath caught in her throat momentarily, then she let it out. There was no use creating tension. It wouldn't help anyone.-

A largish egg starts rocking -- Bronze Dragonet Dialith, 19:51:34 10/13/01 Sat
The shell resisting all struggles made by the hatchling inside so far. This situation does not last long, the stronger dragonet pushing his way through a part of the shell and shattering it with effort. The egg breaks to reveal a glistening bronze - only the second of the hatching. Looking around with hunger, the average-sized bronze seeks his lifemate.
Another egg is rocking slightly, only this egg is deifferent to all the others. It is the queen egg. Metirth bugles to let all the candidates for the new queen know that they should form a semicircle around the egg. Her eyes flash red, and it is apparent that only the bravest candidates shall even get a try at her daughter. She keeps the egg between her forelegs, not ready to relinquich the egg quite yet.
The bronze dragonet hears the bugle and creels in reply. He looks around again, then his eyes catch a candidate. He scrambles over to him, eyes red with urgent hunger. He chirps at the candidate in front of him, and impression is made with Allindar the lucky recipient.
I am Dialith, and you impress me, but I am so very, very hungry.

%The femme ran onto the Sands% -- Riyana, 14:33:44 10/13/01 Sat
%A grin played upon her face before disappering as she attempted to stop, but instead skidded onto the Sands, landing on her butt. The amiable smile shone as she laughed at her fall, brushing the sand off the white Impression robe, thrown on at an odd angle in her rush to get here before all the eggs were Impressed. The robe hung off her right shoulder and the dirty blinde hair fell out of the ponytail that held it captive. Pulling her robe on correctly over her other garments, she put her hair up in a bun, letting the stray bits that were too short fall in front of the green hues. It was then that the heat of the Sands became known to her, she hopped from foot to foot, finally beginning to get used to the sting before she walked briskly away from the entrance toward the eggs. She was 17 turns old, a good age-or so her father told her-to Impress. There was nothing special about her. She came froma holdless family in a caravan that traded with the local holds, usually passing by the Weyr. She got her first glimpse of a dragon during a Threadfall. The caravan was hiding out in a cave for the remainder of that Fall, and she and her friends snuck to the front to watch. The sight of the bronzes, browns, blues and greens that rose on the thermals, only for some to dive back down amongst his fellows, breathing fire at Thread that had escaped the keen eyes of others. She grinned, knowing she was here living out her dream to be a dragonrider, and she knew no fear or anxiety. I'll Impress, I know I will...Ambling toward the rocking eggs, the dark green hues, alive and sparkling with excitement, roved over each of the spheres that sat there, waiting for their lifemate to arrive. Passing the time, she guessed the colors of those who had yet to crack their shells. The orbs reached the lustrous shell of the Queen Egg, sitting protected near it's mother's still form, the immense Queen's eyes swirling as she watched her children Impress and leave her. Wonder what she thinks about all this. The grin played across her face once more. She always had that foolish sort of look about her, being slightly short for her age, lanky and agile with a strange expression always written in the grin upon her face. The green eyes seemed inteligent when she smiled, like she was hiding a secret that you'd never figure out, while she grinned. The grin was lopsided, her lips quirking up more on one side that the other, and her teeth had grown in oddly. The front top teeth were fine, but her canines were too long and her bottom teeth were crooked. Vanity was a term she didn't know, and her looks never bothered her in the slightest bit. She walked closer to eggs, reaching out to stroke one as she walked amidst them, the grin fading slightly as she thought of her parents. Wonder what they're doing now... She smiled, thinking of how her little brothers cheered when she said she was leaving, and they would have to ride in front of the caravan with their father instead of walking. They were twins, and though saddened by her departure, they would find a way to cope with it. The priveleges of being eldest were bestowed upon them, and they had been overjoyed.%
"So...where are you gonna go?"
"To Xanadu, to Impress a dragon."
"And if you don't..."
"I will."
"So we get to ride the horses now with father?"
^Riyana grinned at the boy, younger than his brother by two minutes at most..^
"Yeah, that's right."
^The two looked at eachother, grins lighting up their tanned faces as they ran back to the caravan, hysterical with glee. Riyana grinned and walked over to the green who had Searched her, swinging up as the dragon launched itself into the sky and Between^
%She smiled, knowing her brothers were probably riding with their father, oblivious to the tension that hung in the Sands where she stood. So many nervous people, so doubtful about whether they'd Impress or not. She had no qualms, no doubts about her Impression. If I doubt myself, then I'll back down about wanting to be here, and none of my goals will ever be met. She turned her attention on the others who were still there, watching the eggs in earnest, straining with them. An eyebrow quirked higher than it's partner as she watched the anxious movements of the others as their firelizards sat in the area, trilling and humming a higher note than the dragon's hums. Many of the eggs had begun to shake, and shards of the past Impressed still lay on the ground in shards, shining in the heat of the day. Stand and wait, stand and wait, the hardest part of an impression most likely. Can't rush these dragons though.. Riyana sighed, boredom setting in. She turned toward the other Candidates, the green orbs hazy in though. Might as well make some friends, seeing that I'll be staying with them for quite awhiled after this. She grinned again and set off toward the pair that stood watching the eggs, waching for another to break it's shell...%

Confusion -- Jenna, 06:07:28 10/12/01 Fri
She looked over at her friend, hazel eyes searching for an answer. The single strand of doubt she had been able to evade began to consume her entire being. Like Thread...
Shoulders sag abit before regaining their composure... Questions that could not be answer whirled through her mind... Would she impress? What would become of her if she didn't? What would she impress? Was trying to impress a gold selfish of her? She took a step back from the circle, then took a deep breath before pushing away doubt once more and taking a step back toward the circle... Am I worthy? She asked herself before gazing at the clutch, and the gold...

§Watches blankly§ -Watches in awe- -- Allindar et Rinali, 17:33:42 10/11/01 Thu
§The 18 turn-old male watches the new Impressions quietly, face blank but heart yearning. Why, oh, why couldn't he be like Rinali? Why couldn't he summon up the small courage that lurked in the hidden parts of soul? If anything, excluding a Bonded, that is what he yearned for. More than anything. Except a Bonded. His eyes widened unnoticably as the heat finally penetrated through his sandals. but he refused to budge. Stubbornly enduring the scorching heat, he lets his eyes fall on the remaining eggs. Some so big, and some so small. And then the Queen egg. Who would Impress her? He could wait and see. And he could wait however long nessasary to find his Bonded. He'd waited for years, he could wait days.§
-Rinali looked over at the boy, unusually quiet herself. She looked back at the eggs, the at Jenna, then the eggs. Yet again to the Queen egg. The smooth ivory surface tinged with a hint of gold seemed to coo out at her, drawing her mind into a snare of bliss. She shook her head stubbornly, hoping not to start to hope. If she started hoping and didn't Impress her, then her life wouldn't be worth living. If she didn't hope, then it would be alright. She'd learned that lesson the hard way. She didn't want to learn it again. She sighed, eyes now on Mertith. Gold was the color of value, importance, and more than anything...hope. Hope was what she longed for. {So using the transitive property,} So effectivly she yearned for the Queen hatchling herself unconsciencely. If she could know she longed for it, and believed she did, she would do everything in her willpower to break it. She could not, would not and din't want to go through what she had been through under any circumstances. Well, maybe just one...-

Another impression -- Blue Dragonet Illith, 20:03:24 10/09/01 Tue
Another egg starts rocking - soon after the other two had departed the sands with their jubilant lifemates. This one is larger than those eggs, though - about an average egg size. The mottled shell shakes as the egg wobbles over and around in a cirlcle, making a depression in the sand. The smoothness of the shell is broken when cracks appeared. For a second, all is still, then the egg falls over and the top cracks, breaking cleanly off. A glistening blue dragonet tumbles over and out of his confinement, landing nose-first in the sand. It lies there for a few seconds, then unsteadily rights itself, creeling hungriliy.
It wanders over the sands, falling over several times but gatting a bit steadier each time and never giving up. Soon it has looked at almost all of the candidates, and not chosen any of them.
Metirth croons at the blue, and this sound seems to sooth him, his anxious creels now not as urgent. He looks around again, blue head turning this way and that, red eyes searching.
With a jubilant squawk the blue finds someone and hops, jumps and waddles over to him.
J'her, I am Illith. You impress me. Now I am complete - but hungry.

Yet another egg starts rocking -- Guess..., 16:47:59 10/09/01 Tue
This one is much more subdued than the other eggs, simply rocking from end to end. No sound comes from within, then a small hole appears, surrounded by an increasingly widening network of cracks. A nose pokes through, then with an effort, wingtips break through the shell.
Another egg is also rocking, about the same size as the other egg. This one is slightly more lively though, and a small hole on the top steadily increases in size.
The small green dragonet keeps trying to escape, and with some effort rolls out of the egg, wet and hungry. She looks around, raising her head and swivelling. Her eyes rest on the pair of her lifemate, and she creels.
The other egg shatters suddenly, and a small brown dragon is left sitting on the sands. This one really is tiny, no larger than the green that previously hatched. His eyes whirl red, and he looks around, knowing that there is something left to complete his life.
The green dragonet identifies her lifemate and speaks up first, then the brown.
I..am Elleth. You impress me, K'nickie...food...please?
I am Dalleth, and you are my lifemate, K'lashtai

~ Inside ~ -- Anna + flits, 14:11:43 10/09/01 Tue
The femme of fourteen turns lept off of the bronze dragon, landing neatly upon the Sands. "Thanks, D'aven. Tampath." She said, smiling up at the bronze rider. D'aven didn't reply, simply giving Tampath the signal to fly up higher, and then to go between once they were high enough. Anna rolled her eyes in their direction. She knew that D'aven didn't like to talk very much. She heard a muted chirp by her shoulder and her blue orbs looked at the brown flitter perched there. Aradulf chirped again, and then settled down under her gaze, one talon still lightly gripping her ear, and his tail wrapped firmly about her neck. Anna held out her arms, and on cue two more of her flits came from between, both also browns. Anna smiled once more, scanning where the viewers could sit and watch the Impressions. No sign of him... but then, she hadn't told him that he would be coming. Her shoulder length blond hair fluttered with the breeze that came up, and she automatically reached one hand up to keep her hair down, orbs scanning the Sands. There were so many Canidates here so far! She had no doubt that some of them knew her brother, perhaps even her (by name). Anna bit one lip as she walked slowly over to where the Queen Egg sat, half buried in the hot Sands. She curtysied to the Golden Dragon Mertith and then to the Weyrwoman. I shouldn't have come... Anna thought to herself, looking about again. So many other girls. Why would I be picked over one of them? But she stayed, almost firmly planted in place. She'd wait... perhaps her life mate would be here...

What would he? He looked over quickly, startled by a random shout. He relaxed again, but refused to delve into the topic. She watches the impressions in complete awe, every time she would watch them, they would never cease to amaze her, then glancing at Rinali, " Good Luck." She whispered again, though she felt Rinali didn't need it. She watched the queen egg, then glanced at the newcomer, no sandals?! What was he thinking?
Frowning she turned her attention to once again the queen egg, then to the remaining clutch, then to the golden queen who guards them, Doesn't matter who I am worthy of, it just matters that I am... She told herself though it didn't make much sense, smiling slightly she continued to push away doubt and would continue to do her best.

An egg starts shaking violently -- Green Dragonet Delth, 20:37:20 10/07/01 Sun
So soon after the last one hatched. This one was a lot smaller though - yet it was still a mystery what colour dragonet was inside. The mysterious ovoid rocks, and a shrieking can be heard from inside. This dragonet is obviously another lively one.
Metirth is humming and looks down at the queen egg, her eyes whirling a dazzling rainbow. There is still no movement from this egg, and Sierian is starting to get slightly nervous. Usually the queens are quite forward in escaping from the eggs, yet this one hasn't even moved yet.
Give it time Metirth advises her, and Sierian nods.
The egg that is currently being watched by all rocks a few more times, then two loud cracks are heard, the wingtips emerge and the entire egg shatters into a multitude of small pieces. The dragonet tumbles out, landing in a heap and cheeping happily.
Out! Yessss!
Heads jerk over in suprise as all hear that jubilant utterance. The green dragonet almost seems to dance over to a candidate, eyes only just tinged with red as hunger is nibbling in the corner of her mind.
I'm free! Delth is now free! Delth also wants food!
The lively little dragonet looks up and goes momentarily silent as impression is made. She then grins draconically and dances around her lifemate.
Feed me, Allirea! All - Alli - Al'rea!
She seems to have a little bit of trouble pronouncing Allirea's name, but that doesn't seem to stop her.
We're together now, Alli! Together always! Delth and Alli! Yay!

Egg rocks, drawing all attention to it. -- Brown Dragonet Vinth, 18:14:02 10/07/01 Sun
The egg tilts this way and that, a chipping can be heard from the inside as the dragonet wears the shell away from the inside. The sound stops, then a sharp cracking can be heard.
A length of cracks appear and start spreading over the surface. Small parts of the egg break away, but no part of the dragent is visible yet.
A tail pokes through the egg, thrashing back and forward through the air. Wingtips appear through the other breaks, as the dragonet confined within the egg struggles. Then the egg shatters, shards falling away like a shower of gems.
The newly hatched brown dragonet looks around, creeling hungrily. It starts walking off to one side, then turns, looking around as if confused. With a hungry cheep it hops and jumps its way to a candidate.
I am Vinth! You impress me, L'mech - now feed me, please. I'm hungry.

Strange creatures, these dragons. So young but so sure...quite a marvel though...+A rare sort a half-smile flashed across her face for an instant before fading. What would she do if she Impressed though? What would happen? Doubts and thoughts swirled in her head like a nightmare waiting to come into reality. Seeing images of the dragonets hatching, watching the femme with what might be known as disgust before the ambled toward some more exuberant girl or boy. Being the only person who had walked onto the Sands but stepped off without Impressing.+ Doubts and suspicions get you nowhere, so if leave them all behind you'll get where you want to be... +Her sister's words echoed in her head. Ryeta had been so cheerful, even though she was as mistreated as Alli had been. The second oldest in the family and a female, her father so her as useless; a burden on the family. Ryeta had drowned when the river flooded about 4 or 5 Turns ago, when Alli was 13 and Ryeta was 16. The femme had always smiled...it got to be very discomforting sometimes, when Father yelled at her. He just couldn't break her spirit, and since he couldn't it had encouraged the youngest-Alli-to be vigilant. But she had died, and barely anyone took notice, and the vigilant girl that had taught her couldn't teach anymore. Allirea snapped from her thoughts, a low sort of growl sounding in her throat as she dammed up the emotions that she had learned to keep hidden from view. Ryeta couldn't help her now, there was no use in reminiscing about lost souls. She watched as two new Candidates walked onto the Sands, both boys. Watching each, studying them almost, the blonde locks hiding the snow colored orbs. The blonde one struck her interest, seeming more distant than the more exuberant Candidates she had met earlier, like those girls...what were their names? Rinali and Faylinn and Jenna, that's who they were. Rinali ran to the male, chattering away as always, her firelizards sitting on the ledge, chittering like small children fighting over a toy between the humming of the dragons.+ She'd better watch how much she talks, talking to the wrong person could bring trouble to her. The again...she seems like someone who could befriend anyone she talked to. What a trait to have...and I being a dimglow decided not to...should I apologize? +She sighed, walking toward the pair, shaking her head slightly+

Jogs in -- Jaher, 06:36:28 10/06/01 Sat
He jogs in out of breath, not having enough time to change into the white robe he was assigned. He watched the green impress and drew courage from that, stepping forward into the small crowd of canidates, oddly feeling at home here, with the dragon eggs. He felt little fear, pushing a strand of brown hair out of his eyes., eyes trained on the clutch, taking his mind off the burning sand, for he was barefeet and the reminder of sand made him wince, still holding his chin high, taking deep breaths to keep himself from passing out.

A mottled shell starts shaking -- Green Dragonet Koryth, 23:16:17 10/05/01 Fri
The medium-sized egg actually appearing to almost be jumping up and down. Rocking violently now, it is apparent that the dragonet inside is trying to emerge quite urgently. The shell's mottled surface is still smooth though, no cracks or holes appearing yet.
With a hefty shriek, a green dragonet bursts out of its confinement, sending shards of shell everywhere. The gangly green lands right at the feet of a candidate, looking up and then bouncing up and down happily - filled with energy despite her gruelling efforts to hatch.
Hello! HelloHello! You impress me! I am Koryth, and I am yours!
She pauses for a second, then adds something.
But I'm sooooooo hungry! Can we eat, Keiko? Canwecanwecanwe? Pleeeeease?

-Enters the Sands- -- Allindar, Mejin, 07:55:05 10/05/01 Fri
§Allindar entered the Sands, the movements well known to him now. He'd been through these
steps once, and in his mind many times. His eyes flickered over to the egg shards laying in two
somewhat neat piles. His hands clenched compulsivly, jaw firming. The eggs had started to hatch.
Mejin had been right. Maybe here he could at least talk to somebody. The experience at Honshu
had been one to forget. Traces of people, but no one really there. Even if Raia tells his father,
even if his father finds the note, he would be too late to find him unImpressed. But first the Lord
of Benden would have to notice he was gone before he could do anything. By the time he found
him, he'd be with his Own. Allindar brushed a stray strand of hair from his face, letting the first
thought that surfaced play in front of his eyes. Bad choice.§
§A blonde haired boy stared out a stone rimmed window, squinting defiantly into the sun.
How dare it shine! By all respects it should be raining, or at least one or two clouds in the sky. It
could at least mourn for his mother. He turned on his heel, little 10 turn-old feet carring to his
father's office. His father should be mourning, too. Not playing around with those silly figures of
his. The boy turned the handle, shoving the door open.§ "Daddy! Why're you working? Shouldn’t
we be taking care of Mommy?” §Lord Kallendel sighed, putting his quill down and rubbing the
ink off his hands.§ “Son, I can’t right now. At least not outside. Inside I’m mourning just as much
as you are. Right now I have to tend to the Hold. Why don’t you go help your brothers and sister
mourn?” §Allindar brighten, nodding. With a breezy goodbye, he closed the door and ran out.
Instead of going to his room, however, he ran outside. Climbing up a ledge, he curled up into a
familiar niche, letting the dammed tears flow.§
§He remebered Lady Natierian well. Lithe and pretty with expressive green eyes. Her raven hair
had hung around the ends of her shoulder blades, giving her narrow face body. He had the same
raven hair at that time, but in his grief he bleached it to rid himself off all her memories. He still
had her green eyes, except his were less expressive, like his father’s eyes. They would always go
horseback riding. It was her that tought him to stay on the saddle, to groom a horse, to care for
one. Remebering that, 10 turn-old Allindar uncurled from his spot making his way over to the
former Lady Natierian’s roan bay. She nickered at him, lipping at his hair. His face twitched, as if
trying to smile, but nothing appeared. He slipped into the stall, brushing out the horse’s mane and
tail. The birds in the stall bording twittered quietly, then flapping off. They reminded him so much
of--of Bane and Imorian, his mother’s firelizards. A blue and a gold. The gold fitted her so well. It
had been a shame to see them flit between in despair when she left. He choked back a sob,
putting the brush down and scampering out of the stalls to who knows where.§
§Eventually he reached the top of the battlements, loking over the lush lands. In a way, he
thought, the land was celebrating his mother. Flowers sprang up in their normally dormant times,
blooming into full, glorious flowers. He breathed in the smell, able to smile. Maybe the sun had a
right to shine. Maybe, just maybe, everything would be okay.§
§Allindar lokoed around, swiping at a random tear provoked from the memory. There would be
no one like Lady Natierian. But that was eight turns ago. He was 18, he should be able to handle
it. He forced himself to look at each of the Candidates, sizing them up for appearence until he
could really get to know them. Mejin, the green flit on his shoulder, cheeped quietly, not wanting
to pull attention to her master. That would be bad. Someone had to come of their own free will.
Or maybe Allindar was thawing. Maybe he would manage to speak to someone for a change.§

Thinking -- Jenna, 15:51:05 10/04/01 Thu
She watched the two impress and leave and looked to the others, I'm hopeless compared to them She grinned, Rinali should impress the queen, She is, I think, most deserving... She smiled and watched the egg, still hoping... Fear still fresh on her mind, but who? Who would impress? What if it was herself? Was she being selfish, would she impress a dragon at all? Breathing in deeply she watched the others, as if wishing them all silent good luck and concentrated on doing her best.

((Realizing she's missing her char's age...)) -- Allirea, 14:30:49 10/04/01 Thu
+The 17 turn old watched the two Impression, the cold orbs losing focus as she was taken by sheer awe. How can they not fear whether they'll make a mistake? THey're so young...but so sure of who they want to be with. Is it even possible?? The very thought of it sent the mind reelinh with questions. Sight. The sight of one Impressing a dragon, that was all that could be explained. She watched the astonishment and joy of the males, realizing that this was why she had come here to Impress. It was to feel that happiness that she had never been a part of. To share her feelings with someone who actually cared to hear them. The walls she had made around her began to crack, a slight change of character, unnoticed by others. The anti social nature would hide her doubts, fears and questions from the world, and it would keep her safe. The emotions stopped as she turned her concentration to the Impressions, pale blonde hair shadowing the shimmer of excitment that was left in her eyes...+

-Watches- -- Rinali, 11:38:06 10/04/01 Thu
-She watches as the first two dragons hatch and find their lifemates. A bronze for the first egg - a good sign. And he had chosen Jordan, or rather, J'dan now. She smiled, good for J'dan! Two wishes were fulfilled, but what about the other eight? Her mind lapses into a apttern, trying to match up each would-be rider with a color. J'dan deserved a bronze definatly, Gr'ythorn {or Greyth'rn} seemed like a bluerider. There would be numerous greens, maybe some more blues. Another bronze possibly and a brown. And--she stopped, eyes flickering over to the Queen egg -- one Gold. But who would be the girl. Who was worthy of her? She pushed the question aside, determined to enjoy the rest of the Hatching. Two down, 28 to go.

Another egg starts rocking violently -- Blue Dragonet Lieth, 05:02:40 10/04/01 Thu
One of the smaller eggs on the hatching grounds, surrounded and drowned out by the larger, more imposing eggs around it. Largely ignored by candidates, it is now the centre of attention due to it's movement. A spiderline of cracks start to emerge, then for a few heart-stoping moments the egg is still.
Metirth is still humming, just above the tone of Conoth. The fire lizard's hums can be heard almost as a soprano to the dragon's baritone - yet another indication of exactly how different the sizes of these creatures are.
The egg suddenly splits, wobbling before falling over and cracking, allowing a small blue dragonet to emerge. Nowhere near the size of the bronze previously hatched, it struggles upright and looks around, keening at the top of his voice. It is clear that whoever would impress this dragon would have their hands full - this dragon would be demanding. He looks around, then his flaming red eyes lock on one pair - those belonging to Greythorn.
I want food! My name is Lieth, and I am HUNGRY!

~+Keiko ran onto the Sands, Phantom and Yuri appearing not too long after. Watching in awe as the bronze began to make it's way out of confinement, time seemed to slow down. Small wings emerged as the firey orbs swirled, searcing for it's lifemate, and finally finding Jordan...no, J'rdan now. She grinned, happy for him that he had Impressed a bronze. She knew he had wanted to. Thoughts and emotions raced through her brain, fear, excitement, anxiety..so many jumbled thoughts that would take forever to unravel and think through all balled into a few moments. It was unreal. Phantom settled onto to her shoulder as Yuri did the sam, cheeping in her ear as the brown curled it's tail around her neck. With that encouragement, she walked to where the pthers stood: Tai, Knickie, Jenna, Rinali, Allirea, Greythorn and Mikado. All waited for what would come, everyone expectant...+~

Hatching! -- Bronze Dragonet Zephyth, 02:59:30 10/03/01 Wed
One of the eggs starts rocking slightly more than its neighbours. Muffled noises can be heard from inside it, then a light chipping, which soon intensifies in both volume and urgency. A crack slowly appears near the top of the egg, and then a small piece breaks away. A nose-tip breaks through, and a keening is heard as the dragonet struggles to free itself from the confines of the egg.
Metirth breaks her low humming to bugle encouragement at her child, then rejoins Conoth, Sokorth and the fire lizards in the harmony that hails the creation of new life and the pairing of dragons and their life mates. The sound reverberates off all of the seating and walls of the hatching grounds, seeming to almost visibly vibrate in the air.
The dragonet seems to find new resolution and soon a wingtip appears. The other follows, then the dragonet extends its wings to the fullest, shattering the egg and revealing to everyone a average-sized dragonet with a wet, glinting bronze hide, scrawny wings and flaming red eyes. It squawks angrily, then twists his head around, surveying all that are there.
His eye must have caught one particular person, for he is soon moving unsteadily forward, each step wobbling and almost falling. When he nears his lifemate he jumps, landing right at the feet of the person that will share his life and all that happens in it from this day forward. He looks up, and meets a pair of blue eyes. The red in his eyes flickers out like a flame, to be replaced by a loving blue.
I am Zephyth and you impress me.
The blue in his eyes is once again replaced by a whirling red as hunger pushes aside the emotions that impression had induced. He gives a creel, and headbutts the male in front of him.
Can I eat now, J'rdan?

-Looks around- -- Rinali, 21:12:02 10/02/01 Tue
-Too nervous to speak to anyone, she waves and calls out a welcome to everyone, wishing them them best of luck. With that said and done, her eyes stray once again to the eggs. Once again they are drawn to the Queen egg nestled between Mertith's foreclaws. A small yearning leaps up inside her as she sees it. It was every girls' dream to Impress a Queen, but she may not. She could think of dozens of others who were more worthy of her. But no, she had to have faith in herself. How else would she Impress the right dragon if she wasn't acting the way she normally did? Normally, now there's a good question. Normally she would go up and talk to anybody, not just stand around quaking like a schoolgirl. She swallowed the lump in her throat, gathering her courage and taking a step closer to the rocking eggs. Resisting the urge to reach out a touch the nearest one, she sighs, looking over at Mertith. For some reason she couldn't take her eyes off the protective mother...

~ inside ~ -- Jordan + flits, 17:36:07 10/02/01 Tue
Jordan took in a deep breath, and closed his eyes. The eggs were still shaking (or some of them, at least)... none had cracked yet - right? He peeked open one eye, and let out a half sigh to himself. Nope. None had hatched yet. Night cheeped questiongly, and Jordan reached one hand up to stroke the bronze flit. "Thanks, Night." Jordan murmered softly to the flit. Night chirped again, settling down. Jordan opened his eyes, glancing around. Now there was a lot of people here! It used to be just him and Rinali... and then Keiko, and all the rest. He looked over at Daydream and Night, making up his mind quickly. "You two go perch somewhere else, okay?" He asked soothingly, hoping that they wouldn't mind. Night let out a muted trill, and popped between just after clearing Jordan's shoulder. Daydream stayed for a few seconds more, and then seeing Jordan's look, she followed Night. Jordan gulped silently, looking around again. Nothing had hatched yet... And if he did Impress, it would be by himself. His fire lizards wouldn't have any influence - why they would, he didn't know, but he felt better without them near... if he didn't Impress, he'd rather they not be there... but if he did, he wanted them there... oh, so confusing! He sighed again, his thoughts drifting to his sister... Perhaps one day she'd come here to the Weyr with him... Maybe he could talk her into it. He knew that she wanted to. He looked over at the eggs again, not being able to keep his attention off of them for very long, watching the ones closest to him shimmer and shake...

+Allirea rushed back onto the Sands, panting hard+ -- Allirea, 07:21:14 10/02/01 Tue
Good, I didn't miss it.+Watching as the other Candidates rushed toward the Sands, finding a place close to the larger eggs or near the Queen. The ice blue eyes narrowed slightly, going over each egg in turn, wondering at the colors, like she was seeing the Sands for the first time even though she had already been there. Her stomach began to twist as her thoughts ran. Am I nervous? Why am I nervous.... The feeling persisted as she sought for an answer but found few answers, the best being was that she felt she wouldn't Impress. How does it matter that much to me? If I don't Impress then I'm not worthy enough to Impress, that's it. Isn't it... She shook the thoughts away, stoic mask pulled over her features to hide her feelings. She walked toward the Queen egg and the other eggs, waiting for the moment of truth.+

~ inside ~ -- Jordan + flits, 17:27:22 10/01/01 Mon
Jordan ran in breathlessly, panting to catch his breath, his two fire lizard flitting in the air around him. As he came to a stop, gazing at the eggs, the bronze and green each came to rest on one of his shoulders. Jordan't gaze went to them, first Night, and then Daydream. Perhaps, one day soon, a dragon would come at him, and gaze into his eyes... Jordan shook his head, trying to clear it. He had to stay focused now. He had to! He turned his head, spotting Rinali. He nodded, but didn't go over to her. She had to stay closer to the Queen egg, while there was no point for him over there. He moved over to some of the bigger eggs, some of which had bronze-ish hues to them. Am I too greedy? He thought to himself. Should I move away, go towards some smaller eggs? Do I even have a chance at a bronze? He wondered, his eyes half glazing over. Suddenly, both flits chirped at the same time, calling his attention back to the present. Xanadu Weyr. Hatching Sands....

-Walks in after her 'lizard- -- Rinali, Denshy, elazul, Raytou, 15:30:24 10/01/01 Mon
-The brunette freezes at the door, hazel eyes widening at the sight of the eggs. They're rocking! She blinked, then looked again, hardly believing what she saw. Could this really be happening? Could her dream finally be coming true? Denshy cheeped smugly on her right shoulder, elicting an annoyed bark of sorts from Elazul. Rinali brushed them off her shoulder, telling them to go find somewhere else to perch. The bronze and blue glared at each other, but quietly flapped off to an empty front seat. The girl followed, gently placing Raytou between them.- "Now, be nice you. He doesn't know how to fight back yet." -she left the warning with them, walking back to the Candidate's spot to wait for the others. After a while she shifts her footing, glancing around. A golden gleam turns her head. She loks in the direction, stifling a gasp of surprise. The Queen egg. It was beautiful, radiating a glow the others didn't have. Settling into a comfortable standing position, she watched the rocking of the eggs in a blissful gaze.-

Metirth raises her head as she senses something about to happen. Her vigil has not ended, but now it is about to pay off.
Some of the eggs start rocking or vibrating slightly, a sign that the hatching is imminent. Metirth stretches up into a triumphant pose and bugles a stunning array of notes, announcing the closeness of when her children shall be impressed.
She looks to Conoth, eyes a dazzling rainbow of colours. You flew me well, Conoth
The queen egg is gathered by her talons, and kept close to Metirth. It will take a brave set of candidates to try and impress this young queen.

* A boy of about 17 turns walked onto the sands* -- Lamech, 17:47:55 09/29/01 Sat
* He smiled and waved at his parents in the stands and laughed as his baby sister gurgled in delgith at seeing him. He was very close to his family and his parents were supportive of his decision to stand at the hatching. His parents were minor holders located not to far from the weyr. A dragon rider had been passing by when his dragon told him that Lamech would make an excellent candidate for the hatching. His family had been very excited for him and encouraged him to come to the weyr to prepare for the hatching. Now they were here watching him standing in his impression robes and staring at the eggs willing them to hatch. His parents were beaming with pride and smiled at eachother, knowing that their son was a fine young man and would make a terrific dragonrider. Lamech pushed chestnut colored strands out of his eyes as the cerulean orbs scanned the sands for other candidates. He smiled as he saw the small gathering on the sands and saw that there were only females on the sands, that meant he had a good chance of impressing. He thought back to his child hood, to the times when he would sit outside for hours watching the dragons pass overhead and wishing he was one of the riders flying high above him. He remembered the old rock outside the hold that was shaped like a dragon. He used to go there all the time sitting on top of it and pretending it was a great bronze dragon, he had called it Rocketh as he recalled. He and 'Rocky' would fight thread for hours on end and then be honored at huge feasts for their valiant efforts to save Pern. He had loved that time. And only hoped he would get the chance to fight thread for real on top of a one of those magnificent creatures. He shifted his feet and looked towards the GReat Queen and her Rider. He grinned and bowed to them both. before turning to make silly faces at his little sister*

((*Watches as her char is yanked from the Joining board to here* Might as well just come here, J'bari did say anybody was welcome.)) -- Allirea, 22:40:00 09/27/01 Thu
+Allirea walked onto the Sands, the crystalline grains heating her sandals and burning the undersides of her feet. Balling slender fingers into fist she clenched her teeth and continued onward, the white robe billiowing against her legs, though the light fabric did little to ease the heat. The sun beat down pon the bleached strands, flashing in the snowy hues and relecting dully off the shells of the recently laid eggs. What a sight, the wonders scattered about atop the sand, the brilliant Queen amongst them, oculi whirling dangerously with every step the femme took toward the precious children of hers lying dormant in their shells. The rarest of smiles flickered across the ever stoic expression, one of half joy, half smug attitude, pleased with the fact that, even though her parents tried to shatter her dreams, she had been able to keep one and see it through, mingled with the utter exhileration of an Impression. Small flits, their colors widespread, chirped and flew through the Hatching Grounds, chattering in someway or another. She knew these creatures, her brother had close to 3 or 4, maybe more since she had last seen him. The flits had always been deemed a nuisance in her eyes, and it wasn't her desire to own one anytime soon. She settled back into a small alcove in the wall, watching and waiting and thinking, allowing herself to sink into the well of hatred she'd made herself, quite happy that there was no one there yet, or that they were perhaps somewhere else.+
"Alli, how many times must I tell you not to go into the stables" Her father, a strangely slim man although dominant in the family and unusually short tempered, was standing with her outside the stables, yelling as usual.
"I have a horse in there too you know. Don't speak to me like I'm still 7 years old Pellegar."
This would always earn the contemptuous youth a rather forceful slap across the face, followed by the proper, "Don't talk to me in that manner" scolding, but today it would be different. She promptly ducked, hitting the man she should have called father in the stomach with the power to knock any dragonrider senseless for about 10 to 20 minutes, but her father, being of a weaker build and almost elderly, was dealt a blow that could keep him down for hours. She ran into the stables, thick boots resounding across the floor to the high vaulted ceiling, to her rother's horse. the stallion was faster than the runt of a mare that her parents had "given" her, and wouldn't go lame at inopurtuned times. Allirea dismounted after riding for miles, unbridled the horse, and set it free before turning to start up the trail...
+The femme looked up, cold eyes watching every corner, picking out details. Still no one came, she had seen others, all males, walking in the direction of the Table. Deciding she could use something to eat and scope put who she was to be standing with she exited toward the Tables, her stomach acting as a guide.+

*looks around* -- Faylinn, 22:36:12 09/27/01 Thu
*At sixteen faylinn was still an extremely shy girl. She looked down at her toes hopeing not to draw too much attention to herself as she stood shifting in her impression robes on the sands. She hadn't wanted to come, but her grandfather had insisted that she would make a wonderful dragonrider and that she should come and try her hand at impressing. Slowly she lifted her and looked around at the other candidates.* What I wouldn't do for something to sketch with. *she muttered as she tryed to ingrain the expressions of the other candidates into her mind. They all had a certain glow about them, maybe it was just the way the sun was angled, but she believed that it had to be the excitment and wondered if she looked the same way. She turned and scanned the area for interesting scenes. She sees the dragons looking on towards the queens clutch. Now more than anything she wished she had one. THe beauty of the creatures struck her artists heart with the impact of a giant boulder. They were beyond pretty, they were undescribable. She longed to have one, to have one actually want her, to be life mated to one. She loved the unintetional gracefulness of the creatures. SHe smiled as she looked at all of them, smiling unconsciously as she did so.*

Could something so large and magnificent be able to hold the answer to his dreams? Possibly, but he could wait. After all, he'd probably be waiting for a while.+
^Kenickie, however, revvs into the area. He stops dead-on, face contorting. A small howl of pain escapes him before his brother clamps an angry hand over his mouth. Kenickie shuffles his feet uneasly, trying to rid his feet from the pain while prying Kelashtai's hand off his mouth.^
"Be quiet for once, would you?" +Kelashtai snapped, removing his hand with dignaty.+
"Sorry, I didn't know it'd be this hot in here. I didn't even bring my thicker sandels. I don't see how you can stand the heat," ^Kenickie chuckled, dancing away from his fuming twin. +Kelashtai, also at 17 but with dirty brown hair, shorter and the elder, shrugged+ "Me? Mad at you? How ever did you come up with that silly idea?"
"Well, you do look kinda mad. Whenever you're mad you start getting all quiet-like. Like you are now," ^The younger observed rather naively^
+The elder's eyes flashed once, but held a blank gaze.+ "You want me to yell?"
"Not really,"
"Then I have to be quiet, right?"
"Yeah"
"So I'm not mad, but I can't be loud,"
"Uh-huh..." ^Kenickie muttered, half unbelieving.^
+Kelashtai only patted his shoulders+ "You'll understand someday.+
"So, like, where is everyone?" ^Kenickie looked around, but only seeing the 'lizards.^ "Wonder why they're here..."

Curious -- Jenna, 18:18:22 09/18/01 Tue
She wanders into the area wincing as the sand burned her feet but she paid no heed instead stared in complete awe at the eggs, wanting to touch one... but not. Instead she stepped back and closed her eyes, another thought ran across her mind, staying out of her reach. Shrugging casually she opened her eyes and looked around, Somehow she felt different then those around her, if only....
She grinned faintly and remembered a saying, it too was about dragons. The smile fading she beganto walk away... but stopped suddenly, if she could only impress... She sighed... If.

~Looks around, perching himself on rift in the wall~ -- Elazul, 13:29:08 09/15/01 Sat
The blue flit trilled sadly, orbs searching the Sands for any life. The sooner the things hatched, the sooner Rinali'd come back. Of course he could always fly to her now, but then if her Egg hatched, he wouldn't be able to tell her. But the thought of her spending time with that slack Denshy made his eyes streak red. He could at least shape up! Maybe then he'd feel better about leaving her with him. Calming himself down, he scans the Sands again. Alone. Except for Night. And the big firelizard protecting her Eggs. He suddenly trills out a random scale of notes, then falls quiet. He flies to the other side of the Sands for a different angle. Waiting. Waiting for her Egg. Continueing his vigil.

~+The new pair walked back onto Sands+~ -- Keiko and Phantom, 09:58:19 09/12/01 Wed
~+Keiko was still thrilled with her Impression of the small brown flit, Phantom. Carrying her Impression robe in hand, she looked around, wondering if anyone else had arrived on th Sands. Jade-blue hues roved the area, finding the same faces of Jordan and Mikado. Rinali had yet to arrive back at the Sands, but it would not be very long until she arrived with her two flits. The girl had been quite excited once she Impressed the blue and the bronze...what had she named them? I'll ask her later.. The femme stroked Phantom, letting her mind wander as she thought...+~
((I have to work on a project, so I'm finishing later...))

J'bari walks in, R'kan and Conoth behind him. -- R'kan, Conoth, 00:55:25 09/05/01 Wed
"Is she here?" J'bari asked, refering to Sierian.
'Of course she's here, where else would she be?'
"Where?"
'Just go left.' Conoth said simply. J'bari nodded and headed towards Sierian, Pots and eggs in hand.
