Subject: A timid young boy skitters across the Sands

Apprehensive, he sees the nest and the slivers of eggs, and groans his disbelief. They couldn't be hatching already, could they? Where was his brother, his older, stronger brother? This was a day to remember and Graster was late again? Well, I am too, to think about it. He tells himself reflectively, crouching on the sands. Maybe I should just watch for Graster in the stands, maybe I can't do it. He sighs and runs his hands through his crop of tawny hair. Yes, risks were better left to someone able to handle them.

"Lathrop! What're you doing going to the stands, little brother? It's Impression!" A hearty voice hails from a little to the boy's left. A smiling, tanned face with warm grey eyes enters the sands, the heavier build of the older boy enforcing the younger's slightness. "Come on, you're fourteen turns, now." He beckons to his younger sibling, a solid, nearly glowing presence on the sands.

"I'll wait here and watch you. I don't think I'd have luck." Lathrop answers with a weak smile, plunking down on the bleachers to enjoy the hatching. "I'll cheer for you, and when you Impress, maybe I'll stick by you."
