Topic—Children of Promise

Power Point—"Zoe," the God-kind of life, is the most awesome adventure known to man!

This Week’s Memory Verse—John 10:10

Access Database—John 14:1–13

Got Life?

by Aaron Maners

Sometimes our great God gets a raw deal, not to mention being grossly misrepresented.

People have portrayed Him as a Lord who wants to suck all of the fun and enjoyment right out of life. Not true!

I like the way the amplified version states this week’s Memory Verse: "I came that they may have and enjoy life, and have it in abundance (to the full, till it overflows)" (John 10:10, amp). Our God is all about us "having and enjoying" life in the awesome context of His blessings! As a matter of fact, Christianity and the Christian life is promised and purposed to be different than the way it was before salvation. How different? Old words, old thoughts and old reactions are supernaturally replaced by the promises in the Bible and by the very nature of God Himself.

"I came that they may have and enjoy life…" This word life translates from the Greek word "zoe." (Greek’s funky, huh?) Zoe means "the God-kind of life." Now, how good and powerful do you think God’s quality of life is? He should have His act together, right? This zoe kind of life is available to all of us who accept Jesus and have chosen to live according to His Word.

Too many Christians tend to go through life living from catastrophe to catastrophe, always begging God to help them out of their latest soap-opera-style ordeal. God is shouting from heaven and through His Word, "I’ve made arrangements for life to be better than this for you!" Many people say, "If I can just hang in there until heaven, then stuff will get good." Please don’t think it has to be that way! If we’ll read His Word, we’ll see that our "eternity in Christ" and our "blessings of heaven" can truly begin now, here on Earth! His Word speaks of harvests on Earth and rewards in heaven.

The zoe kind of life is the new kind of life, a victorious kind of life that grows in us to become greater each day. As a matter of fact, we should bounce out of bed each morning looking forward to the huge stuff that God has for us throughout the day.

Zoe people take huge bites out of life and let the juice run all over their face! Chomp!

Now go back and read John 14:1–13 one more time.
