The Times I Sing
by Doug Lasit
I make no claims to be a singer, but there are certain times when I shine. Most of these times are when I am alone—in the shower, in the car, alone in my office. I’m OK with that. I look at it this way: the world just isn’t ready for my gift…
There are many times when I sing, but one stands out above the rest. When I put my precious daughter to bed at night, or when she and I are by ourselves, that’s when I really sing. I can’t help it. I lose myself in the joy that I have from being with her. I know it may be hard for a lot of people to understand. There are some things you must experience to understand. I can tell you about the joy of being a parent, but until you experience it, you will never "sing" because of it.
God sings every time you go to sleep. He sings every time you come into His presence. He sings because He can’t help it. We are all His children. Sometimes we think God is not happy with us. Someone once said to me, "I bet God is sorry He ever made me…" God only makes things that He can sing over. He loves you, and even in your darkest moments He is on His throne singing His heart out…over you!
My daughter thinks I am the greatest singer in the world (next to her mother, the real singer in the family). I can talk, but I lose the tune. My little girl can carry a tune, but can’t quite talk yet. We are an amazing duet.
In moments when you are down, the best thing that you can do is worship. And never forget that as you worship Him, He too will break into song over you! In the end, you’ll find that things always seem better after a good song with Dad.
Now go back and read Zephaniah 3:14–20 one more time.
