Topic—Harvest Takers

Power Point—One small seed planted in the right heart can produce a major harvest

of souls!

Soul Harvesters

by Aaron Maners

The Book of Jude has only one chapter. Verse 23 gives us a command to "snatch others from the fire and save them." Where Satan has sown seeds that lead to damnation and an eternity in hell, God tells us to go and be "harvesters" of the lost. Cool, huh? As a matter of fact, the word "snatch" is the Greek word harpazo which means "to seize upon with force." God is aggressive about creating vacancies in hell, and we should be also!

Jesus was perhaps the greatest soul harvester of all time. Not only was He an example for us to follow in His life and death, but also in His impact on others. My favorite episode of evangelism is Jesus and the woman at the well. Jesus had been ministering in Judea, and people were apparently getting saved by the droves. His disciples were baptizing people left and right, and the Pharisees were starting to get their feathers ruffled. So, Jesus, always under the authority and guidance of the Father, headed north toward Galilee. Obviously, He had to pass through Samaria. But the Father was definitely up to something. It wasn’t long before the details of God’s plan became clear to everyone…and it all began with the woman at the well. Jesus began to sow.

Yes, Jesus began to sow His afternoon—His valuable time—into an unlovable, undesirable Samaritan woman. Actually, Jews were to have nothing to do with Samaritans. Nothing. Again, God was up to something huge. As we watch Jesus care enough about this woman’s soul to sow spiritual truth into her, we see her life transformed and renewed with hope. These were the beginning results of harvest! However, more was soon to come. When she left, she blabbed her newfound joy to the whole town. Wow. Think about that. She didn’t go to one or two, but her contagious joy was spreading through the marketplace like an air-borne virus.

Can you imagine Jesus and His disciples watching as the Samaritan harvest began to make its way over the ridge in front of them (John 4:30)? Many of them became believers!

The Samaritan harvest…big return from small seed.

Now go back and read John 4:1–42 one more time.
