Hi. I've written a very long post compliling a lot of my ideas, theories and reactions to some of the rumors floating around the internet. I've been posting these on a lot of message boards across the internet to see what people think. If you want to contact me, my email is kio9528@cs.com. I might not have a chance to reply to any posts, but i hope you'll find this intersting, in the least. Watch out.
Augustus Rookwood and the Department of Mysteries. The significance of the character is not always recognizable because he is very minor, but I predict he is very impotant. In Book 4, while Harry is dallying in Dumbledore's thoughts in the Pensieve, he sees the trial Karkaroff, who proceeds to name Death eaters. However the only undiscovered name he gives is Rookwood, who used an intricate net of wizards in the Ministry to pass information to Oldy Voldy.
While this fact may seem insignificant at first, you shoudl examine the idea of Rowling even mentioning the Department of Mysteries in the first place. We know absolutley nothing, but I bet we will find out a lot more about it in future books. In fact, I'd wager that Lily Potter was an Unspeakable before she was murdered and that it was some connection to her job that led the whole fiasco of the their murders. If this is true, it opens worlds of possibilities, not only about the function of the Deparment of Mysteries (could it be time travel? the Time turner reappears?) but it's connection to Harry also, because we know Voldemort didn't go to Godric's Hollow to kill Lily. Voldy could have gone to kill Harry because of the information he obtained from Rookwood. And then, of course, comes the question: What is the Order of the Pheonix in the first place? Does it have something to do with this Department? after all, we're supposed to have a huge revelation about Lily.
Another thing that could be connected to the Department of Mysteries is Trelawney's first prediction. If the Department of Mysteries deal with "true" Seers, or at least "true" predictions. Maybe then, Lily might be a Seer, although I will admit, its very far-fetched.
As for the theory of Harry being Gryffindor's heir: It makes sense. In fact the evidence is overwhelming, there is so much in favor of this theory that it makes me uncomfortable. I want to disbelieve this theory because not only is it totaly predictable, I have faith in JK to invent something more important, more significant than the contiued bloodline of the heirs. After all, isn't one of the reoccuring themes in the books all about the unimportance of blood, whether pure or muggle-born? But then you get Dumbledore's gleam of triumph at the use of Harry's blood in Voldy's resurection, but that's going completely off track.....
The main point I'm trying to make, and I'm depending heavily on one piece of information I read in an interview, is that JK will not make Harry Heir of Gryffindor. What I mean is, JK said that she goes online sometimes and reads some of the theories and rumors. She said she's surprised at the creativity of fans, but she said that no one has guessed what will happen yet. And quite a few people have guessed that Harry's the heir.
Besides I'd like to think that Harry is as cool as he is because of his own ability, not because of some inheirited blood.
On a side note, one of the main reasons I argue against Gryffindor's heir is the murder of James and Lily itself. We all know that Lily needn't have died, but what about james? It never says specifically whther Voldy was after James too. Nowhere in any of the books did it say that Voldemort's intentions were to murder James too. It says that he fought Voldemort, therefore he had to die. But isn't this just another form of getting in the way? Lily was in the way, so she died. James was trying to protect his family also, and he died. It did NOT say anything about James needing to be killed. Of course it doesn't say that Voldy didn't not need to kill James.... but I believe that James' death was also uneccessary.
I wish Dumbledore would hurry up and tell us why Voldy wanted to kill Harry in the first place, he obviously knows!
Another thing you might like to know. JK said in another interview that cats were something important. Or rather, one person asked a question about how many cats are in the HP books and whther or not they provide some sort of protection. Jk said something to the effect that there might be, and that question-asker was very observant.
And the cats are: Crookshanks (part Kneazle, obviously), Mrs. Norris, Prof. McGonagall, and Mrs. Figg's cats! Can you imagine? At midnight, everynight Mrs. Figg makes her cats invisble and has them circle the Dursley's house continuosly, meowing in unision... well, okay, not really, but I would laugh if it were true. I don't think that Mrs. Figg was their secret Keeper, because she'd have to do the charm every summer, and it just doesn't make very good sense, at least, I don't think we can speculate on that until we know more about how the Fidelius Charm works.. But the cats...ahhh, the cats. Maybe..
Oh, and one last thing. I am quite convinced that Harry will meet a Lethifold. If you reread Magical Beast and where To Find Them, you will remember that the Lethifold is only repelled by the Patronus Charm, which we all know Harry is expert at. It also seems like the sort of animal Voldy would use to help him gain powers. I bet that you could capture a Lethifold, even if you couldn't domesticate it. It would be an interesting challenge for Harry, anyway.
Sorry so long. any ideas?
